Handsome gambler Sir Carleton Blacklock changed lovely Danita Winggrove's luck for good. It was easy for the generous baronet to pay Danita's debts, for he gained and lost fortunes every day. But Sir Carleton soon found the pretty young miss more tan charming--he couldn't lose with Danita at his side. Proud Danita swore she'd pay him back for his loan, if he's allow it. And she'd gladly serve as his good luck charm--for the chivalrous gambler was winning her heart. But as a plainly dressed companion for her exquisite cousin, Danita could only dream of capturing his affections. Unless Lady Luck stepped in... I really enjoyed the story line very much for the first 2/3 of the book. It had a nice set-up and well-liked characters. But after that, for some odd reasons, the story fell apart. There were so many developments going on, but characters' growth was lacking--hero gambler was still a gambler, heroine gambled with her virtue to save the hero for the cause which I thought was unnecessary (there was better way of handling it); and there was the fortune that she inherited where she could really make a good use and be an independent woman that she always wanted to be, but somehow was over-looked by the writer... And there was also the mad aunt .... The ending was confusing and unsatisfactorily done. |
