5.0 out of 5 stars Queen of Miami is OUTSTANDING
Once again Meta Smith did an excellent job. I loved this book. I like that is was not the typical ball and fall urban hood story. I think her first book The Rolexxx Club was great and Queen of Miami is the perfect second novel. I can't wait to see where Ms. Smith will take us in the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars What Would You Give Up To Be The Queen of Miami?, March 14, 2007
This review is from: Queen of Miami (Paperback)
Roberta "Bobbi" Hayes is an upcoming DJ in Queen of Miami by Meta
Smith. She knows the ins- and-outs of the industry business. But
born and raised by a prominent socialite mother, and a well-known
attorney father, it looks like Bobbi is heading in the wrong
direction. Her parents want her to be a lady or at the very least,
follow in her father's footsteps. When Bobbi decides to follow her
dream of "Stardom", the golden spoon is removed and so is her family
support.

This tale is of a young woman coming to terms with herself and
proving that she can do anything she puts her mind to. Bobbi is on
the come up and she wants to prove to the world that just because she
is from a wealthy family does not mean she can not be a down chick
and get by on her own accord. Bobbi beats the odds by not taking her
wealthy family for granted and getting everything hand delivered by a
silver spoon. Bobbi laughs in the face of danger, and boy is she
faced with it. This upbeat book takes you on a journey through the
eyes of a young woman with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Bobbi meets a mysterious Russian promoter named Mikhail Petrov, who
is willing to give her everything her heart desires. Despite all the
rumors surrounding this guy in regards to him being a mobster, Bobbi
finds herself living in the lap of luxury. She is making contacts
and DJing at the best places in the world. Bobbi is definitely on
the come up, now the question is how long can she ride this wave?

Meeting this Russian prince who promises her the world and delivers
has her head spinning. She can not believe her good fortune; is this
too good to be true? Bobbi is whisked away from her humble setting
in Miami to see how the other side lives, but what she witnesses
makes her feel like Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz"; there is no
place like home. Bobbi wants stardom and money of her own. But around
every corner she is faced with spies, secrets, lies and more rumors.
Take this journey with Bobbi and Mikhail as she becomes the Queen of
Miami. Murder, cash, shopping sprees and more are laced in this
intricately told tale.

This is a good book for teenagers who are caught up in the glitz,
glamour and labels of today's society. Scandal, chaos and murder is
the theme for this book as well as what are you willing to give up
for the price of fame. This story is a definite eye-opener for all
the young ladies trying to make it in the industry. It takes you
from a low to a high that you never want to come down from only to
realize the only way out is death. The lesson in this story is keep
your eyes open and trust no one.

This book got off to a slow start and actually came to life in the
last 100 pages. I would have liked a more evenly-paced story to
coincide with the good character development. This story showcases
a lot about the industry that some people are not aware of.
Queen of Miami reminds one to be careful of your surroundings, and everything that glitters is not gold!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ballad of Bobbi Hayes..., May 22, 2007
This review is from: Queen of Miami (Paperback)
Fresh off her release of the Rolexx club, Meta Smith spins yet another worthy tale of ambition, intrigue, and lies. In Queen of Miami, Meta Smith introduces a more interesting story line ... venturing away from expectation and adding a touch of interracial / cross-cultural relationship tension.

To date, Meta Smith has given us a music video in The Rolexx Club , and now a feature length movie in Queen of Miami. In fact, there are a couple of tasty cameo appearances from the protagonists of her first published work. I came away feeling that this one was paced for the screen...fast in the beginning, slightly lower pitched across the middle, and a surprise ending to finish off the cinematic experience. With Queen of Miami, Meta Smith appears to ask her readers to mature with her as a published author. She teases the audience with just enough temptation to keep you wondering where it will go ... before throwing in the literary equivalent of a John Woo film during the ending sequence.

While some readers of the genre might be challenged with Ms Smith's insistence on more careful character development in Queen of Miami, I found the conclusion of the ballad of Bobbi Hayes to be completely satisfying....and an important milestone for the young author's career.

Add this one to your library ... I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the screen some day.

The cost of a crown may be more than reigning disc jockey, 'Ms. Bobbi' is able to pay, but it is her dream to be the queen of Miami.

Roberta 'Bobbi" Hayes followed her parents desire to become a trained concert pianist, but Bobbi has her own agenda. She forgoes her inheritance and takes off for Miami, Florida.

Bobbi wallows in every pleasurable vice that litters her path. But when she meets Mikhail, a dangerous 'sugar daddy', who takes her to exotic places, Bobbi loses touch with reality and gets caught up in his whirlwind. And even with her 'over-the-top' lifestyle, Bobbi knows she is out of her league. Mikhail is Russian, a high rolling club promoter, and a mysterious dream weaver. He offers her more bling, connections, and torrid heat than she can comprehend. Bobbi knows something is amiss, but she is so close to her goal. When she discovers Mikhail's true connections, she is in too deep; she has already passed go and collected two-hundred dollars. Bobbi finally learns the real danger Mikhail represents, will it cost her life?

Meta Smith's new release, QUEEN OF MIAMI, brings the extravagant worlds of hip-hop, brand names, promoters, and disc jockeys to an unveiled crescendo. The story was a bit predictable, and the plot takes a short breather, but the writing is good and the drama maintains a good touch of realism. Ms. Smith gives readers a wide angled view of the good and bad sides of the industry, and a sultry look at Miami's party scene. QUEEN OF MIAMI is danger, with a savvy twist and hot with a capital 'H'!

But the book is about a girl who basically jump in the bed with who ever she feels like banging when it times for her to go home. But she ends up messing with a man that's in the mafia and he wants to offer her a job as his main DJ at his club and then he offers her ownership of the club.Everything that she thinks is perfect is not and she turns to arms of another man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real slow start but a mad dash to the finish., June 26, 2008
This review is from: Queen of Miami (Paperback)
This book was really slow in the beginning. I won't even lie. I put the book down and didn't touch it for a month (and that's the honest truth). I picked up where I left off after a stressful day at work. It began with a long winded explanation with each of the character's family members. Her mother, father, grandfather etc. But once I got past all of that, the book really started moving along quite nicely. When Roberta or 'Ms. Bobbi' as she is widely known, steps into a Teflon Don's ship and cruises the summer to Greece, Ibizia and Spain, I was glued to the pages as I read along. I loved the vast and detailed descriptions of the the character Mikhail's lavish, rich lifestyle. I even loved how the author described everywhere they visited while cruising Rome. I felt like I was there and had a clear picture of their travels.

But things start to get hairy once she returns to the M.I.A. and becomes a partner at the new hotspot called Babylon, that's when the high life of sex, games, diamonds, and Cristal hits a brick wall once reality peeps it's ugly head. Money can't buy happiness and the LOVE of money becomes the root of all evil. I have got to give Ms. Meta Smith her props. Once the story moved along, she never ceased to bore me. On top of that, the character development of Bobbi and Mikhail progresses. She goes from a naive chick around-the-way who had a passion for life, to living the glitz and glamourous materialistic high life, to abandoning her former self and changing into a darker version of who she was once se gets a glimpse through the shadowy lifestyle of her Mafia lover and boss. The book was fast paced and was a page turner. I don't want to give the story away but it's definitely worth a read. Ms. Smith, keep the talent and books coming.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Price of Success, July 1, 2007
This review is from: Queen of Miami (Paperback)
How much is success worth to you? What price would you pay to be the Queen of Miami? Ms. Bobbi, as she likes to be called, has to learn the hard way that nothing in life is free, including success. A promiscuous DJ who knows no limits when it comes to getting hers, makes major moves in a major way as she slowly begins to take over the club scene with her amazing skills on the turn tables. But when she hooks up with shady Mikhail, who as it turns out has some amazing skills of his own in the bedroom and a nice bank account to match, Ms. Bobbi soon finds herself sprung! Mikhail takes Ms. Bobbi's career to a another level when he introduces her to the 'real' movers and money makers of the world. But at what cost is her new fame worth...maybe her life. Not your run of the mill writer, Meta Smith has proven that she's talented not only on the music scene but in the literary world too!
