Book Description

September 1990
Bilqis, the Queen of Sheba, is a woman as modern as her story is ancient. Constantly in conflict with priests and high lords of her kingdom, she longs for love but fears that she may lose her throne if she chooses the wrong man. In Solomon, she finds both love and a new faith, the covenant between man and woman and the convenant between humankind and God.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Grandmistress of biblical fiction, Dorr (Abraham and Sarah, Moorings: Ballantine, 1995) offers two superb and compelling accounts of the life and loves of King Solomon. Solomon's Song traces Solomon's love for his father David's intended bride, Shulamit. Political and familial intrigue dominate Dorr's retelling of one of the Bible's least-known love stories. In The Queen of Sheba, Dorr explores in grand detail the relationship of Solomon and Bilqis, the wise queen who shared Solomon's vast wisdom and riches. Dorr's powerful account offers insights into Bilqis's search for truth, love, and faith in a foreign kingdom. In each of these novels, Dorr exercises her considerable skill to unveil the mysteries and passions of the biblical narratives. Highly recommended.

Roberta Kells Dorr has the ability to draw in the reader... I couldn't put this book down! Accuracy with biblical text is important to me, and this author does not disapoint. I have a better understanding of these biblical characters after this enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Recollection of Biblical Events, September 21, 2000

This review is from: The Queen of Sheba: A Novel (Hardcover)
I am no scholar, but I know a great story when I read one. I was extremely disappointed to see that this author's books are for the most part out of print. The story was accurate and added details where necessary without violating the original point of the biblical passage. I especially liked the embellishment about the queen's feet. Anyone who has interest in the bible or just loves a great historical read would enjoy this book.
