Editorial Reviews

Review
Queen is the debut novel from one of Triple Crown Publications' newest authors, Cynthia White. The namesake of this alluring novel is daddy's little girl. Queen's daddy just happens to be Hershey Aaron, the Boss of St. Louis' most powerful organization, the Black Mafia.

The murder of her unfaithful mother sends Hershey to death row and Queen's life on a tailspin full of lovers, killers and high-priced shopping sprees. Her striking beauty and intelligence are matched by her determination to keep alive the empire her father founded. But Queen is a teenager, exploring both her sexuality and her desire to love and be loved. The fine line that separates right from wrong is definitely blurred. What's a teenage daughter of a boss to do? Queen must deal with cops trying to shut down her father's operation, various men vying for the opportunity to be her king, rival organizations on the come up, and her not wanting to turn into the deceased mother she despised. One thing is definitely true about this book. If you have to put it down for whatever reason, rest assured that something new and unexpected will develop when you start reading again.

Murder, sex and lies...these are the things that Queen must navigate through in order to survive. Love, life and liberty...these are the things that Queen slowly begins to realize are much more valuable. From manslaughter to motherhood, Queen struggles to make sense of the unyielding pace of her life.

Cynthia White has set the bar high for her future endeavors. This quality piece of street literature has aligned this new recruit with some of Triple Crown Publications' veteran squad in terms of talent. Full of high fashion, expensive jewelry, unorthodox plot twists, arousing sexual encounters and quality characters, Queen may be seen as a street lit classic in the future. --Joey Pinkney, Freelance Writer

Product Description
Queen is young, beautiful and extremely intelligent. Born and raised as Princess of The Black Mafia, an organization founded by her father, she wants for nothing except the love of her cruel, cold-hearted mother. When the police arrest Queen's father for her mother's murder, Queen's perfect life is shattered. Holding a dark secret, Queen must decide if she can reveal the true identity of the killer in order to spare her father's life. With her father gone, she searches for security in the arms of a series of lovers, who all have their own agendas. Just as her life seems to be spinning out of control, she learns to face her own demons and take control of her destiny. But when Queen finally realizes that she is so much more than the criminals and thugs who surround her, it may already be too late.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is Queen Bi-Polar...or what??????, November 15, 2007
By Princess Tracy (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
In "Queen", Cynthia White introduces the reader to a young lady named Queen, who is the daughter of the leader of "The Black Mafia" out of St. Louis.
Queen's life has been one of privilege and pampering. The finest of everything life has to offer has always been at Queen's fingertips. However, Queen has had some unfortunate knocks in her life as well. She was never really loved by her mother, she was raped and felt forced to keep it a secret, and she was sheltered from some of life's most simple pleasures (ie: no Chuck E. Cheese's as a child).

Towards the beginning of the book, a crime is committed and Queen's father (the love of her life) is sentenced to life in prison. So starts the saga of Queen.

While I found Cynthia White's writing voice likable, the entire time I was reading the book, I felt like she was confused about who Queen really was. Was Queen a classy, rich, sheltered, pampered, Mafia princess about town, or was she a regular hoe willing to give her body to any man who had but to ask?

Queen was, at various times in this book, unlikable, unrelatable, sleazy and pathetic (all the while thinking she was "doing it"). The character would keep preaching one thing, but doing another. She continually cheated on the person that she professed undying love for in every third sentence; yet in every fourth sentence she was whining that she only did it because of how "hurt" she was, or how "emotional" she was.

Towards the end of the book when two dudes were "fighting" over her, I just wanted one to whip out a glock and put the "Queen" out of her misery. Either that, or force her into a limo, drive her to the nearest psychiatrist and get her started on a medical regiment that could help her manage her obvious Bi-Polar Disorder.

This book made me think: I'M TOO DAMN GROWN FOR THIS GARBAGE THAT CYNTHIA WHITE IS TRYING TO PASS OFF AS LITERATURE!!!

I think this book is geared towards 15 and 16 years olds. I wish somebody would've whispered that to me, BEFORE I spent my money.

My rating ***2.5***

1.0 out of 5 stars WTF! , November 1, 2007
By Kiny "Ms. Kiny" (Homestead, Florida) - See all my reviews
This book was all over the place, Queen didn't know what she wanted out of life or who she wanted to spend her life with she was a mess and so was this book. First of all it was very unrealisic and just crazy at times. I know that this was the author's first book but maybe she should have gotten help from friends, family,or a fellow author. Ms.White if at first you don't succeed dust yourself off and try again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, November 1, 2007
This book was horrible! It wasn't realistic at all. I never connected with Queen or any of the other characters. She kept going on and on with the same destructive behavior with no end in sight. I understand the author was trying to mirror Queen's behavior to her morther's however, there was no follow through. The book may have had some potential if the author would've put some more thought into it. The entire book was one big redundant storyline. Hopefully, the next one will be better.
