3.0 out of 5 stars Is Queen Bi-Polar...or what??????, November 15, 2007
This review is from: Queen (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
In "Queen", Cynthia White introduces the reader to a young lady named Queen, who is the daughter of the leader of "The Black Mafia" out of St. Louis.
Queen's life has been one of privilege and pampering. The finest of everything life has to offer has always been at Queen's fingertips. However, Queen has had some unfortunate knocks in her life as well. She was never really loved by her mother, she was raped and felt forced to keep it a secret, and she was sheltered from some of life's most simple pleasures (ie: no Chuck E. Cheese's as a child).

Towards the beginning of the book, a crime is committed and Queen's father (the love of her life) is sentenced to life in prison. So starts the saga of Queen.

While I found Cynthia White's writing voice likable, the entire time I was reading the book, I felt like she was confused about who Queen really was. Was Queen a classy, rich, sheltered, pampered, Mafia princess about town, or was she a regular hoe willing to give her body to any man who had but to ask?

Queen was, at various times in this book, unlikable, unrelatable, sleazy and pathetic (all the while thinking she was "doing it"). The character would keep preaching one thing, but doing another. She continually cheated on the person that she professed undying love for in every third sentence; yet in every fourth sentence she was whining that she only did it because of how "hurt" she was, or how "emotional" she was.

Towards the end of the book when two dudes were "fighting" over her, I just wanted one to whip out a glock and put the "Queen" out of her misery. Either that, or force her into a limo, drive her to the nearest psychiatrist and get her started on a medical regiment that could help her manage her obvious Bi-Polar Disorder.

This book made me think: I'M TOO DAMN GROWN FOR THIS GARBAGE THAT CYNTHIA WHITE IS TRYING TO PASS OFF AS LITERATURE!!!

I think this book is geared towards 15 and 16 years olds. I wish somebody would've whispered that to me, BEFORE I spent my money.

My rating ***2.5***

2.0 out of 5 stars All Hail to the Queen!!, October 3, 2007

This review is from: Queen (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Queen is a daughter of the Boss in the Black Mafia. Her father is unjustly imprisoned for killing her mother. She is then pushed to run the family business with her Uncle Moe.The characters in the book were very undeveloped and you will find yourself truly disliking the main character Queen. She is very shallow and doesn't know what she wants you will be on a rollercoaster ride with Queen's indecisive and at times destructive behavior. The sex scenes where hot that's why this book got the two stars but other than that..... I kept reading hoping it would get better but it didn't. Nice try Ms.White but it was just alright.I still will give the writer a second chance and buy the next book everyone deserves a second chance!!

1.0 out of 5 stars WTF!, November 1, 2007

This book was all over the place, Queen didn't know what she wanted out of life or who she wanted to spend her life with she was a mess and so was this book. First of all it was very unrealisic and just crazy at times. I know that this was the author's first book but maybe she should have gotten help from friends, family,or a fellow author. Ms.White if at first you don't succeed dust yourself off and try again.

Queen- Cynthia White's debut novel is the Eye of a perfect storm. In a sea of chaos Queen must learn to reign with an iron fist and a sometimes cold heart. As Queen's father, Hershey Aaron who happens to be the Boss of St. Louis' most powerful organization- the Black Mafia, is sent to prison for a crime that he didn't commit she becomes the one thing she truly hates in this world... her mother. Infidelities and lies were her mother's flesh and blood, and now they are now the back drop to Queen's life. She must use her intelligence and determination to maintain the kingdom her father founded. Will Queen learn what is really important in life? Will she understand that only she can make her happy?.... Queen is a page turner with nonstop plot twist and intriguing characters.

Cynthia White maybe a debut author but her writing is that of a veteran. I look forward to reading more of her works in the near future.

I picked this book up at the library, at first I didn't get pulled into the story. About 2 months ago I picked it up again and could not put it down. Queen is a young lady who never wanted for anything thinks to her father.Queen has never seen eye to eye with her mother who is murdered on Queen sixteenth birthday.Queen loses her father on her sixteenth birthday as well. Queen truly loved her father and since he can no longer be in her life, she finds herself in the arms of several different men.Queen goes through hard times along the way.She truly loves Isiah but will they be able to be happy.Queen tries to right some of the wrong decisions, so she can provide a better life for her unborn child.Queen was a good book overall. So if you haven't read it go out and pick it up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Royalty...AT ALL!!!, December 12, 2007

I usually love everything from Triple Crown. However, this book "Queen" by Cynthia White...me no likey. I tried to read about Queen, her dad Hershey and all the other characters. I tried...but failed. This book could not hold my interest and the plot was so unrealistic and far fetched!! I was rolling my eyes while reading it. I skipped to the end just to put myself out of my misery. I'd pass on this one people....

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, November 1, 2007
This review is from: Queen (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
This book was horrible! It wasn't realistic at all. I never connected with Queen or any of the other characters. She kept going on and on with the same destructive behavior with no end in sight. I understand the author was trying to mirror Queen's behavior to her morther's however, there was no follow through. The book may have had some potential if the author would've put some more thought into it. The entire book was one big redundant storyline. Hopefully, the next one will be better.

1.0 out of 5 stars FAIL, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Queen (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Okay I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is just not feeling this book. I noticed it was taking me forever to finish this book when I can usually read through a TCP (Triple Crown Publication) novel in a day or so. I love TCP which is why I tried to stick this book out but I can't finish it. It's much too slow and boring. Queen and Isiah got on my nerves with that whole back and forth nonsense.
