This review is from: Queen Victoria's Enemies (2) : Northern Africa (Men-At-Arms Series, 215) (Paperback)
This Osprey volume covers a somewhat miscellaneous collection of enemies faced by Britain in the mid-late 19th Century from Egypt to Kenya, notable among them being the fearsome Asantes, the Abyssinians, and the fanatical Muslim Madhists, as well as some minor tribes and the following of the rebel Egyptian leader Ahmed 'Urabi. The text provides good coverage of the often inadequate arms of these peoples as well as their respective fighting styles, and the how's and when's of their surpressions. The color plates particularly impressed me as well, being very life-like and colorful. |
