"Unadulterated joy and sheer pleasure!" GAMBIT WEEKLY (NEW ORLEANS)
"Finally, the how-to book Time-Life forgot to publish!" PAPERMAG -- Publisher Comments
Do the words outrageous, hilarious, scandalous entice you at all? If so, pick up the Drag Queen's Cookbook & Guide to Sensible Living. It will titillate your funny bone from start to finish. Honey van Campe, the 'nom de drag' of the author serves up a delightful step by step approach to the making of the ultimate transvestite. She seems to feel there is a real gap between the women's books written in the "years B.C. (Before Chanel)" and the Goddess-on-the-Go today. An obvious need is fulfilled here and she answers all the imponderables for T.V. and, if you'll pardon the expression, lay-man alike. She deals with Elementary Drag, Dragspeak, and Family Matters. There's Schmatte Talk and the keys to true beauty in numerous laugh laden chapters. As van Campe states "The guest is the enemy," and if dinner happens to be late? Let them tour your wardrobe. Things will never be the same again, "...but the moment will be saved and no one will ever hate you for serving a tardy meal." Add to it the Social Dues/ Social Don'ts and the recipe is there for you to cook up a whole new persona. Speaking of cooking, the second half of the book offers recipes and instruction, with wry yet insightful comments thrown in for good measure. Van Campe must have scoured the kitchens of many a friend to find these recipes from Meat-A-Man Casserole submitted by Miss Polly Morfuss to Lady Finger Steaks by Miss Mary Exmass. There's even a Barbie-Q to tempt any girl's palette. It's a riotous mix of fun and fancy from start to finish, lavishly illustrated with photos of the great and near great in T.V. land. So have your friends together for a wonderful faboo, and remember here is everything you'll need to take on the world. Go girl, go. -- From Independent Publisher

Unusual recipes, theme meal planning tips, a fun read,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Drag Queen's Cookbook & Guide to Sensible Living (Hardcover)
The combination of humorous life-style tips and
recipes for truly good-tasting food give this
book something for everyone, drag queen or not.
I had a hard time deciding whether this book
belonged on my coffee table or in the kitchen.
The plentiful tasteful (no pun intended), campy
photographs are a delight.
I even enjoyed the credits at the back of the
book - unlike other authors paying dry homage,
Honey's wit and playful humor introduce the
reader to a fascinating cast of collaborators.
I strongly recommend this book as a perfect gift
for anyone who enjoys cooking or has an offbeat sense
of humor, or both.
