I just love the Valdemar series, and this one is classic. Wonderful bad guys, great characters, funny & suspenseful, corny but in a good way. Don't just buy one of this trilogy at a time. Get them together like I did in the hard bound book, or buy all 3 paperbacks, because you'll want them. If you like a good magical adventure with a little romance, you'll enjoy this series.

I enjoy Mercedes Lackey's work. This one is great. Subject matter seemed more adult than teen but maybe I've lost touch with teen subjects.
This book is also known as "Hearalds of Valdemar". Luckily I was able to determine this before I bought one of each titles. Having the 3 books in one is great...less expensive & keeps the story flowing. Not sure if this was the 1st trilogy to read about Valdemar, lots of references to "other" people & events but the trilogy can & does stand on its own with adequate summeries of who & what the characters are referring to, like a history lesson. I recommend this book for all Mecedes Lackey fans & to new readers of fantasy books.

I read the Herald Mage series first and was sucked in. The Queen's Own series is different enough that it feels familiar but has new tales. I own a copy of both series and will never part with them. I re-read them at least every other year and enjoy Mercedes Lackey's writing. Never could get into the other series, but these two are must-reads.
