5.0 out of 5 stars QUEER is here to stay!!!
I thought this soundtrack was going to be just "OK" - but QAF sounds better than I thought it would! It didn't let me down. You'll recognize most of the songs if you watch QUEER AS FOLK on Showtime - and be proud you finally have them on a CD. They even have the "spunky" opening tune by 'Greek Buck' that opens each episode.

My faves are on...

3.0 out of 5 stars COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
Don't get me wrong. This show is one of my favorite shows. It is addictive and I never missed an episode. The music used in the show itself featured some of the funkiest and danceable tunes which we would never been heard about otherwise....shying away from big names but to more obscue artists like Katti B., Alcazar, Full Frontal, etc. In fact, Madonna's "Don't Tell Me"...

My faves are on here too - I especially like "Proud" by Heather Small - sounds like a gay anthem ("What have ya done today to make ya feel proud...") featured on the first episode; "You Think You're A Man" with that brief infectious nasty laugh in it; "Dive In The Pool" which was used to close the first half dozen episodes; "Shake Me" sounds like a funky disco tune that reminds me of the 60's; and "Let's Hear It For The Boy" (a Justin theme song?).

If you like QUEER AS FOLK, this CD will get you soakin' wet this coming summer. With QAF renewed for a second season, no doubt there will be more QAF soundtracks in the future. CD includes a few cast pictures from the TV show (including a big smirk from Brian - figures!) and liner notes from the executive producers.

I like to see the QAF CD on the top 10 list nationally - it's time we had a "queer" soundtrack on the charts, don't you think? Straight To...Number One?

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! WHAT AN ENERGY PACKED CD!!!! This one's for EVERYONE!, April 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Queer As Folk (Audio CD)
What can I say! This CD is non stop fun! Upbeat high energy dance music! This Sountrack really goes hand in hand with the series! GreekBuck's Spunk really gets things going and when you think it's time to cool down, Barry Harris/Pepper Mashay hits you with Dive in the pool. "Let's get soaking wet!!", Pepper Mashay demands. I must commend Showtime on taking on such a controversial series. It is about time! They do it so tastefully and the soundtrack follows along! It is great to hear a "fresh" group of songs on a gay related sountrack. If I heard Gloria Gaynor on one more cd...UGH! Don't take me wrong, Gaynor isn't bad, but she is on every gay related cd! ENOUGH! I know I will be hearing many of the hits on this cd in the nightclubs! If you love to dance or just want to listen to an upbeat cd, Queer as Folk is for you...no matter what your sexual preference is!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars QUEER IS GOOD BUT A LITTLE RUSHED, April 20, 2001

I'm a big fan of the show and a huge HI-NRG music fan. While I like this CD, but I feel this CD was rushed to press. 'Spunk'by Green Buck, the shows theme is only 28 seconds. I was hoping for a full song. The highlights on this CD are:'Proud'by Heather Small, wonderful slutry vocals,'Lovin' You'by Kristine W.,this woman can sing, do yourself a favor by the extended remixes of this song.'Let's Hear It For The Boy'by Katty B, fun and bouncy. 'Shake Me'by Mint Royale is also fun, has hints of ABBA.'You Think You're A Man'by Full Frontal is great HI-NRG (good remake of Divine's original), so is 'Crying At The Discoteque'by Alcazar and 'Do YA (feel the love)'by Love Inc. 'Straight To...Number One'by Touch and Go is nice. The other songs are forgettable. This CD is missing one of the best songs from the series 'Filthy Mind'by Amanda Ghost, other then that, not bad. I would have enjoyed this CD a lot more had they included longer versions of these songs. All in all I'd recommend this CD. This soundtrack will keep you happy between episodes.4 stars.

In fact, Madonna's "Don't Tell Me" is the only current hit used by the show.

Half a dozen songs are featured in each episode and with a huge selection to choose from, this CD did a pretty good job in selecting the best tracks. Highlights include the opening titles Spunk, Dive In the Pool, which was used for the end titles in several episodes, You Think You're A Man, Let's Hear It For the Boy, Shake Me, Crying at the Discoteque, Suffering, a sarcastic rewritten version of Carole Pope's High School Confidential ...and the slinky and sexy remix of Straight to Number One by Touch N' Go.

So why the three star rating?

Well, this CD has filler...namely Summerfire, Let's Start Rocking and Do Ya Feel the Love. These songs sounds pretty much like generic dance music and doesn't really stand out like the other tracks.

Also, some of the best music featured in the series is left out, and should have been included like Orange's The Music, Abbacadabra's Dancing Queen, Temperance's Forever Young, Velvet's Funky Dancer, Robin Black's hilarious More Effeminate Than You, and a club remix of Geri Halliwell's remake of These Boots Are Made For Walking.

I know you can't put everything on one CD, but at only under an hour long, they could have slap a couple of more songs on.

No doubt a second CD will probably surface..

4.0 out of 5 stars Could Have Been 10x More Better, January 26, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Queer As Folk (Audio CD)
It is a fact that music does play an important role in the storyline of Showtime's popular new series, "Queer as Folk." While most of the story revolves around the lives of several young gay men and women in Pittsburgh, the show's soundtrack captures the ongoings at the local nightclub, Babylon, perfectly. When I first picked up a copy of this soundtrack, I was hoping that the producers would release all tracks used in season one of the series. However, they didn't and that is why I am somewhat disappointed with this compilation.

Most of the songs on this album, including the show's annoying opening/closing song, are weak dance tracks that do not capture the beats and grooves of popular dance compilations such as Victor Calderone's "E=VC2" or any of John Blair's dance compilations. However, not everything on this soundtrack reeks. There are at least two tracks which I rate as catchy, danceable tracks which is why I gave this compilation four stars.

The first track, Kristine W's "Lovin' You" ranks as the best song on this soundtrack. Similar to most dance diva's, Kristine's vocals are strong, flowing, and the song's rhythm perfectly captures the essence of a club anthem. The other song, Katty B's "Let's Hear it For the Boy" is a remake of the popular 1984 song by Denise Williams that appeared on the "Footloose" soundtrack. While different from original, Katty's version is much more danceable and enjoyable nowadays due to advancements in music technology.

The only song I wish they included on this soundtrack was the really throbbing dance song that played in episode 18 of the first season, where Brian (Gale Howard) encounters an unfaithful Dr. David in a bathhouse. That song, which I ranked the best track I heard so far on the series, perfectly captured the sexual ambiance of the mentioned location. Unfortunately, it was not included.

Let's just hope that the show's producers decide to release a second volume of music from the series that will include new songs from season two, in addition to songs from season one that did not make it on this compilation. Until then, this soundtrack will have to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A shining jem in my CD collection!, June 23, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Queer As Folk (Audio CD)
What can I say about this soundtrack that hasn't been said already!?! If you are looking for upbeat, heart-thumpin music, this soundtrack is the one to have! It's a brilliant blend of techno, trip-hop and even some introspective numbers like the shoe-in-for-Grammy-nomination "Proud," the sexy and sultry "Straight to Number One," and the melancholic sad fest whoa-is-me number "Suffering," all giving this repertoire of diverse talent a meaningful even keel. My favorite dance songs here are "High School Confidential," "Summerfire," "Let's here it for the boy," "Shake me," and THE ULTRA HOT (So fitting since I live in Guam) number I listen to every morning when I run is "Start Rockin," my absolute favorite on the CD! I know so many people who are so proud of this series and are thankful to the people who have put such a great effort in keeping a show like this on the airwaves, it's definitely something to be watched! For those who have not seen this show yet, pick up a copy of this CD, read the liner notes on the inside and find a friend who gets this series weekly. (The first season will air again starting July 1st) I started watching from the beginning and I am officially hooked! With each episode that is shown, it's like I get my weekly Sunday dinner. With this CD, it's a luscious dessert to be enjoyed afterwards and all through the week! I can't wait for the DVD set of the series this fall!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great... by why no Drifters song????, July 27, 2004
This review is from: Queer As Folk (Audio CD)
Ok... this is a great album for going out dancing...or having a really really queer party at home... but where the heck is "Save the last dance for me" by the Drifters... I mean it was the song taht was played during the most important and romantic scene of the whole season... the prom dance by Brian and Justin...it's just a lovely song... shame on those who didn't put on the album...

4.0 out of 5 stars Listen to the Queer Beat, September 10, 2005
This review is from: Queer As Folk (Audio CD)
The First Season Soundtrack of Queer As Folk....

...starts of with the catchy "Spunk" by Greek Buck (it also ends with this song which sort of strikes me as a pointless waste of space). Anyways it goes on to feature such great songs as "Proud" by Heather Small which is really one of my favorite songs on the compilation. As other mention frequently, it really is a gay anthem.
Kristine W.'s "Lovin' You" will get anyone in a loving mood, with its beat, beating its way to your heart.
Many people complain that the soundtracks complain non-disco tunes. Well, to them I say: Why shouldn't they? There are some great non-disco songs on here that I really enjoyed in the show. Jay Jay Johnson's "Suffering" is a great song to listen to. It really makes me remember the dramatic moments in the show. That one along with Touch and Go's "Straight to Number One".
Back to the disco tunes however, who can ever forget "Let's Hear It for the Boy" by Katty B. and "High School Confidential" by Carole Pope. Those two songs should bring an image of out-and-proud Justin for any Queer As Folk Fan. I can never forget that scene when Justin tore off his shirt (he did that to both these songs didn't he? hehe) and showed Brian (to Let's Hear it for the Boy).
My Favorite fast-paced gay "thumpa-thumpa" tracks on this compilation are "Start Rockin'" by Antiloop, and B.U.'s "Summerfire"
The reason I gave this great soundtrack only 4 stars is because there should have been more. Queer As Folk has probably the best soundtrack in the history of television. There are so many songs that are hard to find. How can they give us only 14 songs? I really feel there should have been 2 discs in this set with at least 30 songs. I mean, the UK soundtrack offers nearly 40 songs and it lasted only 10 episodes.
Anyway, that is my perspective of this soundtrack. The bottom line is, if you enjoy Queer As Folk, you WILL enjoy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Queer As Folk (Audio CD)
I am addicted to QAF not just because of Brian Kinney. The music presented in the show is so fresh and sexy that you could actually feel how it would be like in the legendary Babylon.

If you count it, there're 10+ songs played per episode. SO you are looking at at least 200 songs for the entire season. And it is a tough job to pick some and fit in a soundtrack disc. We all have our own favs. Well, mine will be all the music from episode 20 (king of Babylon contest).

And I think,if someone asked, when Brian and Mike were playing bowling, the song in the background is called "Let Forever Be" by Chemical Brothers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Queer As Folk Soundtrack:Hot or Not?, February 1, 2002

This CD is definantly a keeper! It just makes me dance every single time I play it.The music is so great, I feel like I'm in the show! The only down thing about this cd is that it dosn't have the prom song Justin and Brian danced to "Save the Last Dance for Me." Other than that, it's the greatest investment since laser.
