This review is from: A Queer Circle of Friends (Paperback)
A Queer Circle of Friends is the sequel of Fool for Love by Lisa Lees. Cover, once again, by Jade Gordon. The two main characters, Jami and Carys, have been living together for about six months, which is longer than the time frame for the first book, and things seem to be going well. But life is rarely smooth, even for us "normal" people, and soon they have to deal with the death of a friend. But also other issues start to pop up. Jami feels she needs to come out, to be herself, and not just a carbon copy of the "pretty girl" most people mistake her for.
Then they find themselves wishing to have a three-way relationship with Tam. So, as you can guess, things get more complex. I happen to be a fan of Firefly and enjoyed the fact that so many of the characters were also fans. Most of the scenes seem to be presented in a smoother fashion which suggested to me that Lisa's style has improved. The sex, missing from the first book, was done in good taste. The work suggests that the author has gained more confidence in her writing skills (which was darn solid to begin with). I look forward to the third book. |
