Book Description

March 10, 2005
Homosexuality has hit the mainstream. Civil partnerships and gay marriage continue to grab headlines, while TV successes like Will & Grace and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy point to increased acceptance and appreciation. In this lively, pocket-sized guide - complete with illustrations — Michelle Baker and Stephen Tropiano have gathered an array of trivia and anecdotes drawn from every corner of queer culture. From literature to heritage and history, from politics to the always fascinating realm of popular culture, readers will find their interest piqued, and their conversations enlivened, by fun (and often funny) facts and figures. Who was the first openly gay politician elected to office? The first lesbian soap character? What's the most successful gay novel of all time? And what is the story behind Abba's "Dancing Queen"? Queer Facts answers these questions and more — with inimitable style, of course. The book features a foreword by Graham Norton, one of the most popular entertainers on British television and known in the United States for his weekly show on Comedy Central.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich and tasty like a good slice of cake with pink icing, September 10, 2005

This review is from: Queer Facts: The Greatest Gay and Lesbian Trivia Book Ever (Hardcover)
This book is filled with pots of trivia about the world, ways lives of the Gay and Lesbian and Bisexual culture. It quite simply is a unique collection of fascinating facts all printed on bright pink paper which tells you about the first openly gay politician to be elected to office, books written by gay authors, as well as books about the LGBT scene and a look at the first lesbian soap opera character, along with many other interesting facts, figures and hot gossip that is often hilariliously funny and tragically poignant in the same breath.

I got this book on one of my thrift shop hunts and I bought it just on spec, and I was totally fascinated and really enjoyed the whole book from cover to cover.

Not overly explicit by my standards but it could offend those who hold deeply religious views but then it very much a book for those who know, love and are part of the LGBT scene.

Am I part of that scene? Well that would telling wouldn't it?
