Last year I had the opportunity to watch Queer As Folk through my dvd subscription. It took me all of half an episode to be hooked on this heartbreaking, funny, dramatic, and serious look at gay life in Pittsburgh among a small group of close friends. I won't try to rehash five seasons worth of this show in a review, but I will say this: This show was way ahead of its time. Derived from the British series of the same name, it served as a model for American shows when the only gay characters on TV were Will and Jack and Ellen. Queer as Folk demonstrated that America was ready to have a honest potrayal of gay and lesbian life and love onscreen.

Where this show sparkles is in its dealing with life, love, relationships, drug addiction, the struggles of gay teens and coming out, sex, dating, and discrimination against gays and lesbians. The acting is superb, showcased by Hal Sparks, Gale Howard, Randy Harrison, and Sharon Gless among others, and the cast developed their characters for the last 5 years, making them seem at times more real than not. Is it exaggerated at times? Yes, just as a show like Sex and the City is, but Queer As Folk is more heartfelt and emotional than that show could ever be. QAF was also never afraid to tell a dark or painful story, reminding everyone that life is not always wonderful.

The box set extras for the last are quite good, with lots of commentaries, character and actor bios, deleted scenes, and outtakes. The DVD set releases May 30. The final season is only 13 episodes, but the show manages to wrap the series up in a way satisfying to the fans, with an ending they have been hoping for since the first episode of Season 1.[...] Enjoy the final season of this great series. Highly Recommended.

QUEER AS FOLK is still one of the most amazing TV Shows ever and is a landmark as the show for the new millennium. This New Queer As Folk Season 5 DVD Box Set has all 13 episodes of the fifth and final season. Queer As Folk is destined to be one of the most controversial and bravest TV shows of its time. The BOX SET includes Bonus features such as: Filmographies, Rosie O'Donnell diary, wrap party reel, deleted scenes, photo gallery, and a Music video of Cyndi Laupers Shine. I have seen all 13 episodes of the final season 5 and it is another great and very emotional season. I am still amazed at how honest this show is on dealing with gay life. Queer As Folk is about the life of a group of gay guys and a lesbian couple living in Pittsburgh. Queer As Folk makes no apologies and thats what is so great about this series. From the graphic sex scenes to the drama of dealing with the prejudice that still haunts America, this show is so brave and I give Showtime a big thumbs up for having the balls to take on such a big risk as Queer As Folk. This show has some issues that are far more real for some than others. This is not a show just for gay people, but for ALL people. It deals with human emotion and thats something that we can all relate to whether we be straight, gay, bisexual, black, white, brown or in between. Queer As Folk has opened the doors for mainstream gay movies like Brokeback Mountain (which received 8 Academy Award Nominations and won 3) and Transamerica. With this season being the final season of Queer As Folk I encourage you all to enjoy this great show because very few shows can touch your heart yet push the limit as far as this show has. I encourage anyone who has a open mind and a open heart to BUY this amazing DVD collection as it will inspire you and if nothing else open your mind to a lifestyle not as uncommon as you may think. Watch more than one episode before you judge this amazing series. I would also highly recommend Queer As Folk Season 1, 2, 3 and 4.

One Quick note: The packaging for season 5 is different and not as good as the first 3 seasons, but it is a space saver and so much better than the horrible packaging of season 4.

The final season of this groundbreaking clasic may be gone,but the memories and the "thumpa-thumpa" live on.The most intense season yet sees Liberty Avenue and its citizens go through some tough challenges.Ted fears growing old alone,Michael and Ben are Tested in more ways then one,Justin returns from hollywood with bad news,Mel and Lindsay's relationship takes a few turns,Emmett helps an old love,deb gets an admirer in the form of guest Rosie O'Donnell....then there's Brian,who does the unimaginable..for him.Although there are still many questions left unanswered,this is still one of the best final seasons of any show i've seen in some time.DON'T MISS IT!!!!

I can't get enough of queer as folk. I bought all five seasons within a short period of time, and fell in love with all the characters individually. My personal favorites are BRIAN, JUSTIN, and MICHAEL. They are the best in my book.
I've been a huge fan and supporter of the brian and justin relationship from day one. I'd always hoped that they'd be together until the end, and kinda...that did happen. I was thrilled when viewing this season that the idea of brian and justin getting married...I was all for it. I just wished that they would've followed through. Justin...why did u leave for NY? Brian was your chance at happiness. He never changed, and you knew him for his true self from day one. He was always honest with you, and never promised you anything that might in the end break your heart. I was so sad during that last episode...well, for many reasons, but mostly because of brian saying goodbye to justin...and them making love for one last time. I cried...I'll admit it. I've grown with that relationship, and I never wanted it to end. I hope and pray that they make a follow-up little reunion type of thing for these characters, and we see that brian and justin are together, just like they should be. I kinda believe they knew they were the best things for each other, and that no one could ever come close to the relationship they could share with each other. I want to see a show like that come along, and that would make me soo soo happy. Buy all 5 seasons of the show..you defidently won't be disappointed. This show is amazing!!!!!

It is sad to think that there will never again be a new episode of Queer as Folk. This is a series that I thoroughly enjoyed, especially during the first three seasons. I loved the daring approach taken by this show towards gay life and sexuality. I also liked all the carachters, some of which, such as Brian Kinney and Emmet Honeycut have kept me fascinated with this show for the duration, thanks not only to the excellece of the writers, but also to the brilliance of the actors. And I enjoyed the music and the cinematography of this show very much.

Season five is actually better than season four (which I felt was a little of a let down). The sories were sharper in season five and the carachters more interesting. The only episode I did not like was the very last closing show. I was dissapointed not only with the ending (for a brilliant ending of a similar kind of show, see the last episode of Six Feet Under- much more powerful and moving and hopeful) but also with the quality of the episode itself. The whole of the last episode had a limp feel and the wrap up of the five year story arc of the relationship between Justin and Brian was badly handled. As a viewer I felt kind of cheated by the writers, that after putting us through all of the many ups and downs and the drama of this relationship, then wrap it up in the last episode in a way that feels both unsatisfactory and incongrous with the five year story. Oh well, it is just a show. Despite this, the season itself is well worth watching and thoroughly enjoyable.

I actually just saw this show for the first time about a week ago because we don't have Showtime, but when my mom said we were getting a month of it for free, the first thing I did was see if Queer As Folk was on. I watched one episode and was totally hooked.

Everything about Queer as Folk is amazing. There's so many different things that these people are subjected to and it's funny to watch them learn and grow up and...find the right people for them. I love watching it.

The fifth season was particularly sad because I knew it was ending and I was kind-of sad about how things ended as well. There's a lot of emotion in this show, so if you're a cryer like me, keep the tissues on the table next to you cuz you're bound to shed some tears.

I think that this show gives people a good idea of some of the things that homosexual people go through. Maybe it's just me, but I think this show is perfect!

Hmm... For me, Queer As Folk is not just another program or series but a personal journey. I remember watching my first episodes when I was only 17 (still in the closet) while my parents slept. This final season has brought together, admirably, many of the loose stories and adventures that veterans and new comers to the season can both appreciate.
This final season not only attest to the outstanding artistic scope and vision of the directors as can be enjoyed through the dynamic cinematography that somehow heightens the onlooker's emotions while simultaneously invoking untold feeling through music selection throughout the episodes. (I also have owned the soundtrack for season 5 for over a year!)

But incontrovertibly, the best aspect of the final season is that the directors and story writers transformed the story truly reflecting the evolution of the characters as the audience has come to bond with them while placing untold new obstacles into the story line without repletion or monotony!

This series has not only been a journey for the creators and artists but also a journey for me as well...

Like many of the reviewers for this item, I am a longtime QAF fan. Even though admittedly the final season lost some steam from the previous ones, it's still enjoyable to watch, and is a nice end to a great and important run.

I have to totally disagree with the person who said Brian Kinney is miscast and is average looking. This is obviously all personal opinion, but this seems insane to me. Everyone I know finds Brian Kinney incredibly hot, even if they aren't attracted to that gender. When I watched my first episode of Queer as Folk (it was a season two episode), I found Brian to be good looking but I also didn't get why he was such a stud to all the guys on the show. However, after you watch a few episodes, Brian's confidence and character are what make him so attractive and alluring.

My advice to buyers: if you can stand it, wait to buy the final season until the price goes down, like it did with season 1, 2 and 3 which were also ridiculously over priced at 80-100 dollars just a few years ago. And absolutely DO NOT buy the "used" versions if you're expecting the exact same product sold here. if you're paying more than 10 bucks for it, it's a rip-off.

I am so sad that this is the final season of QAF. I have loved the show since the beginning. In the final season we see some closure to tough situations, some very happy and surprising outcomes, and the way homophobia is so damaging yet brings the community and our allies closer together. The final season takes you through the gamut of emotion and will leave you with a smile on your heart as well as a sense of loss that we'll not get to continue the journey with the characters we've come to know and love over the years...

Season 5 was a mixture of some really good emotional moments and a bunch of boring dribble. The episode with Cyndi Lauper was superb, well-done and packed with so many punches. Then there were episodes where nothing at all seems to happen.

The characters over the last two seasons changed so dramatically that it was difficult to still love them. Only Brian, Justin and Debbie seemed the same as they were in season 1. Granted, they go through changes, especially Brian, but it never seemed forced. The other characters became annoyingly 'mature'. I don't know why so many people think that in order to be mature, one must be boring but that's kind of what happened. Mike and Ben were just so self-righteous and anal (haha) that it made me want to give them a good smack. Ted's wallflower pathetic nature lost it's charm and I just wanted to scream "get over it already!" Melanie and Lindsay's fight was ridiculous and it was difficult to sympathize with either of them. Emmett was still cute, but the writers seemed to run out of funny things for him to say.

I recommend this season simply for the fact that it wraps things up quite well. Brian and Justin's relationship was handled beautifully. It made me cry. It was great. They're the reason to shell out the crazy money.
