Wonderful read for anyone looking for queer spiritual knowledge from an anthropological, non-bias (aside from the queer) perspective.

This review is from: Queer Spirits (Paperback)
I good introduction to the topic of gay spirituality. I was particularly moved by the chapter on the gay nightlife scene of the seventies, which was accurate and insightful.
I hate the use of the word "queer" in this context, and fail to see how academics justify it. A word that has hugely hurtful associations for the majority of gay people can't be defanged by adopting it. That only comes across as perpetuating self-hatred. But it has been going on for too long now to stop I suppose. But I wish the self-appointed guardians of gay culture would not presume to speak for all of us when they make these arbitrary and destructive decisions.
