3.0 out of 5 stars Overview of Modern Gay Theology, August 20, 2005
Because of the great debate in America today about gay marriage and the role of gays in the church, students of the historical Christ will eventually find themselves needing to address the issue of homosexuality in relationship to Christianity. Goss's earlier book Jesus Acted Up was something of a milestone when it was published in 1993. Although gay theology was not new at that time, Goss' approach was unusually direct. Now with Queering Christ written ten years later, Goss updates us about the possibility of a gay/bisexual Christ, a gay-friendly Bible, and the attitudes about homosexuality in the churches today. Goss also discusses the spiritual dimensions of gay sex in more generic terms, sometimes in a very explicit manner. However, this book is more of a summary, and it often requires us to go directly to the sources that Goss mentions in order to flesh out his arguments. I think that this book would have benefited from another 100 pages to really do justice to the issues that he tackles since they constitute such a broad and hot-button subject.
