5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop Laughter
As my family concluded our first annual Thanksgiving game of Quelf, I surveyed the table. My mother, who turns seventy this year, had a belt tied around her head (to look like a ninja, of course). My father, seventy-four, had a sock coming out of his shirt collar and his shoelaces were tied together. My sister, thirty-nine, was wearing a bike helmet (the card had...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very fun, but gets old fast
This game is a super fun party game. It really gets people to open up and be crazy. That said, it also gets old fast. You can only play it about twice with the same group of friends before it just gets too repetitive. I played it a bunch for the first two weeks, and then we haven't touched it for over two years.

My sister, thirty-nine, was wearing a bike helmet (the card had called for anything with a chinstrap), and her pajama sleeves hung loosely by her sides (another card had informed her that she was now "armless" - we had to roll the die for her after that). Who were these people? I have known them all my life, yet throughout this spirited game I had witnessed surprisingly novel actions: My mother pantomiming that she was wearing flippers and a snorkel while being attacked by a swarm of bees. My father, a physician, delivering a moving eulogy for his fictitious dog "Scooter," who, according to the instructions on the card, had an affinity for coleslaw and delighted in playing with large land mammals. Never had I seen my sister slap herself on the face, turn to me and yell "you must not defy the king!" The four of us agreed that we have never laughed so hard, or so consistently, as we had during that hour of play. I admit, I was skeptical before purchase. After reading some of the reviews and viewing pictures of the box online, it had first seemed as if Quelf was some sort of wacky game that needs a certain setting, mood, or substance related enhancement in order to be fully appreciated. This is not the case. There are elements of the game, such as the trivia and category parts, that help Quelf to maintain its flow and keep the players grounded in authentic board-game style competition...This game sucks you in and then absolutely hammers you with random acts of creativity and humor. Player age, gender, and personality are non-factors. Quelf has an uncanny capacity for drawing out the best (and by "best", I mean the ability to make other people laugh until they nearly soil themselves) in anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Hilarious!, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Quelf - Premier Edition Board Game (Toy)
I cannot remember laughing that hard. This game is so funny and ABSOLUTELY RANDOM! Make sure you have a GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR! Although the cover of the box has cartoon characters, and may look like a kids' game, it is NOT! This is perfect party game with a great group of friends!!

Quelf has to be the most out of control, insane board game you have ever played. It is awesome and the more people that play, the more difficult it gets. I have to say 4 people is an ideal number to play this game with. Ya gotta have goofy friends and not be afraid to make fun of yourself. Enjoy

I read the reviews for this game and they gave me the impression this was a fun game; but until you play it, you have no idea how wacky it can be. If you want to laugh, this is the game for you. Creativity and/or a willing spirit are a must to really entertain with this game. Exhibitionists would love this game, the rest of us will thoroghly enjoy the show. TOO MUCH FUN!

We added a twist. We like to give each player a prop to represent their character (like a spatula, ninja headband or leather jacket).

Just go with it and have a great time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quelf is crazy and fun., January 17, 2007
This review is from: Quelf - Premier Edition Board Game (Toy)
I originally bought this game to have something different to play with our grandchildren, ages 13 - 26. They loved it and couldn't stop talking about Quelf. They loved the randomness of the game and that you couldn't predict what you were going to be asked to do - they loved my version of the "Chicken Dance". This Christmas, I gave one game to each family and we were the hit of Christmas.

Excellent game. There is alot of laughter and silliness involved. Some risque actions though, so think about what you want to do before shocking the kids! We love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The funniest game you will ever play, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Quelf - Premier Edition Board Game (Toy)
You really can't describe this game well enough to do it any justice. It's madcap fun and great for bringing people out of their shells... Our friends love the game and it usually comes out at the end of our parties now for extra fun. One of the best items I've ever brought.

I don't think I have laughed as much playing a board game as I have with Quelf. There are not words to explain all the crazy things that you might have to do. This is a fabulous game - just watch our for too many rules!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nonstop fun for everyone!, July 28, 2008

First of all, do NOT buy this game if you want to get a good night's sleep! After playing for only 5 minutes you will be roaring with laughter and will have an EXTREMELY high amount of adrenaline pumping all throughout your body!
The object of the game is to roll your dice and be the first one to get to the finish space. On each space you land on you have to draw a different card, and carry out the action it tells you to. There are 5 different categories of cards.
Here is an example of one of them. "This card is classified! Excuse yourself from the gameboard saying, "Excuse me. I have to use the bathroom." Say nothing more and take this card with you to the bathroom. DO NOT COME BACK. You must wait until someone comes to get you. When a player comes to get you, reveal this card and return to the gameboard. Any players that came to find you may advance 1 space."
This is another card. "'Famous roads' or 'Types of cookies that you wouldn't normally shove in your ear' You choose the topic". Then go around the board and each person has to name one. Whoever can't think of anymore has to pay the penalty. On that card it is to move back 2 spaces.
I can honestly say this has been the absolute best game I have played in years, and I will continue to love it for a long time. Hope you enjoy it as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best game for bonding with your teens, January 22, 2008

This game is easy to setup and learning to play is a snap, but this is not a passive game. You will be running and jumping and moving with this game, so be prepared. A search through the house may even be required, and while it takes work, the investment is worth it.

My teenagers and I had so much fun with this game that we laughed until we cried, really. It is not everyday they get to see Mom don a calphalon helmet and sing a song. My husband hates board games, and he eventually came to the table to participate because he heard all the commotion. My kids are 14 and 15 and this was the perfect game to liven up an ordinary snowy weekend.
