My kids both LOVE this product, and it is a wonderful way for them to while away some time at home or in the car. The lacing is easy, not true sewing at all. My little one just pops the string around the board making abstract art. My older one can make the pre-set designs and loves to create new ones! It is very engaging, and gives children immediate results. If they get frustrated easily, this might be a good toy for them, as it is so easy to 'do' it and get results. There is counting involved (if you use the pre-set sheets) and lots of imagination. I got extras because they lost the little poker pens, but mostly that's my 3yo, the older one is find keeping it all together in the box. Also, you could use an empty ball-point casing, just as easily. I bought this for a 5yo, my son is 3 and my daughter is 9 - so it fits a very wide range of ages nicely. :D Thanks Quercetti for a fabulous gift my kids and I all love!

Some time ago, I purchased a Melissa and Doug princess bear lacing set. While it's very cute, it proved to be very frustrating for my daughter. Once she figured out how to lace through both sides, I thought all would go well, but the laces inevitably ended up getting hopelessly tangled. Even when she was able to manage getting one of the outfits laced onto the bear, she'd have to hand the toy over to me so I could unlace it for her. When I saw this one, I thought it might be worth a shot.

A couple of years ago, I purchased a Quercetti marble run for her, and it's a toy that's provided the entire family (yes, the adults love it too), a lot of fun, so I figured that I couldn't go wrong with another Quercetti product. I can sum this one up with these simple words: this is a fantastic toy.

One of the biggest selling points for me when it comes to Quercetti is the fact that their toys are made in Italy. I do my best to avoid buying toys (and many other items as well) that were made in China. It's sometimes daunting to search for toys made in other countries, so I'm glad that I've had such success with Quercetti products. I feel I now have a brand I can trust for quality.

What really makes this set is the unique lacing board. My daughter simply needs to slide a lace into the lacing pen, poke the pen into the board, pull it out, and she's done. There are no more tangled laces and no need for flipping the board over to sew from one side to the next. The board consists of a series of circles with Y-shaped incisions. These incisions grab the lace and hold onto it. Once my daughter is finished with her design, she simply needs to tug the laces out of the board and she's ready to start again. In fact, unlacing it is probably her favorite part.

My husband and I have used the toy as well and we both enjoy it. It comes with patterns, but it's also a toy with which my daughter enjoys experimenting. The patterns remind me a bit of doing counted cross-stitch as they do require some counting in order to follow, but I think this only enhances the value of the toy. On top of developing manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, my daughter is also practicing counting and thinking about how to duplicate the pattern onto her board. I'm very, very pleased with this toy.

I like the idea of this but it is not for a child who is just learning to use lace and put it thru wholes. I think kids will need help and maybe little bit older kid can enjoy making design. My four years old son have little hard time putting the pen thru the hole (since it is stiff, hard to go thru). Following the pattern is more for a six age or up.

I'm glad I got it and for years to come my son will have fun with this.

I ordered this product after observing that this was one of my friends' children's favorite toy. I was looking for a surprise for Christmas for my 8 year old. She loves it! In fact it is the most used Christmas present this year. Her sister and brothers who are 12,11,and 9 are always asking for turns with it. It is fun, durable and a great quiet toy. Since it comes in its own kit, it is easy to take with us wherever we go.

I don't think the profuct information adequately explains just how truly awesome this toy really is! It includes 4 "needles" which the child loads with shoelaces - they punch the "needle" into a slot and it secures itself and they move on to "stitch" into a new hole. We have spent hours with this toy with all 3 of my kids loading needles and making collective art! It has been a delight to a 6,4 and 2 year old - separately and together! My 4 year old takes this toy to bed at night to "sew" as she unwinds from the day ... she delights to show us her night's work first thing in the morning! Highly recommend!

I got this for my 5 year old granddaughter for Christmas, but due to label mixup (ours), my 3 year old (nearly 4) grandson opened it. Well, it's a hit with both children. It's fun, easy, clean, portable, and just enough challenge for both these age levels. It's a great little pre-sewing kit for them, too. It will travel well and their parents are certain it will be a "must have" on car trips, short or long.

I couldn't be happier. Value is excellent. I will be buying more toys like this and others from this company for my other grandchildren, great nieces and nephews.

This is my first review on Amazon, but this really deserves a 5 star! This toy is great! I have 5 children, almost 7 and under, and they are lined up to do this. It is challenging enough to take some effort and thought, but they can do it BY THEMSELVES, a huge plus. Also seems very durable. I want 4 more sets, lol!

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter as kind of a pre sewing activity. I enjoy it too. We have only played with it once, but it will be a keeper. It comes in a travel case too.

I purchased this as a birthday gift for my 3 year old granddaughter. Although it took her a little while to figure out that pulling on the string "undid" her picture, she soon got the hang of it and played for over an hour that first night. Since then another of my grandchildren, a four year old girl, found it in the toy room and played for literally hours. She was very upset that she was not allowed to bring it home to her house!

This is great for manual dexterity and creative processes. It does require patience, but I really appreciate a toy that encourages good qualities.

DESIGN
The lacing set is actually nicer than I expected. I thought there is foam below the circle-grid that grabs the laces. But the top surface is one big white plastic surface with inset circles (to help follow the templates) and little slits cut into the flexible plastic. The slots on the thin lid "grab" the lace when it is pushed through with the threading pen.

Great built-in storage. The white plastic top is a lid that lifts up, and the red mesh plastic box stores the templates, laces, plastic "lacing pens," etc.

CONTENTS
The 4 lacing pens are colored to match the lace colors, but this is unnecessary. You'll wish your kid would just grab the closest lacing pen instead of looking for the lost matching one! (Warning: The lacing pens totally smash up when your 3-year-old chews on them!)

We received 8 laces (2 blue, 2 yellow, 2 green, 2 red). I would like to have another set of laces added to the set!

HOW IT WENT
The toy only lasted about 10 min in the car on a recent trip. Our kid liked listening to audiobooks for much longer periods than doing the lacing set. But I hope we get a lot of good use out of it in the future.

My 4-year-old had trouble holding the template AND doing the template design. Lack of space in the car! But he still enjoyed using the template, AND he enjoyed doing freestyle designs. I was surprised how he created freestyle designs so easily with his first try since the grid-pattern is quite different from a magnadoodle, for instance.

VALUE
I like how using the templates seems to expose kids to mathematical skills: comparing the template grid to the real lacing grid, comparing spatial qualities, counting spaces to skip, dealing with up/down/left/right. These are things I practiced in 8th grade algebra.
