If you know anything about Diego Rivera's life, you will appreciate this interpretation of his love and loss in Paris when he was a young man starting his painting career. I use this book to help me with my advanced Spanish studies. Elena Poniatowska is a fine writer with a history of great works.

I was assigned this book for my spanish class. I didn't expect much since most of the books assigned in college and school are not very interesting but this book pulled me in immediately. As the letters go on and you find out more about the relationship of the main character and her ex the book becomes more and more tragic, culminating with an ending that felt like a punch to the gut. The book is very short and very easy to read which is rare for books like these.
