Quest has put together a launching system, which includes the electronic wiring, the launch pad, and the launch rod.

This is a good basic launching system. It uses a single 9-volt battery to ignite engines. It is a good system for most (smaller) rockets.

The pad itself is made of lightweight plastic. While very portable due to its light weight and ability to disassemble the unit, I have found the pad to be a bit unstable when a larger rocket is used. I wish there was a bit more anchoring weight to the tripod pad to make the whole pad more stable. There is no way to anchor the pad to the ground, and if you launch ontopof sod grass (instead of hard ground), the pad will not be as stable as desired. I give the launcher 3 stars because of its relative instability with larger rockets.

(Update: In order to make the launch pad more stable, I drilled holes in each of the launch pod legs and now anchor the pods with spikes. This prevents the pod from moving when the rocket launches. I can also launch larger rockets because the base is stable. 4-7-11).

My decision to buy this controller was based on Amazon reviews and product design, and the fact that I love Quest's over-priced but very reliable igniters. Unfortunately, neither of these indicators turned out to be reliable. I thought this controller by Quest would be much better than your typical Estes launch controller, but it's not even worth bringing to a launch.

The controller is extremely flimsy injection-molded plastic that weighs literally nothing without the battery. It even feels cheap in your hand. I can't believe someone is passing this off for a launch controller.

The launch stand is equally cheap, made of the same cheap plastic, and the legs slide on from the top instead of the bottom!!! This means the legs keep falling off, and you have to glue them on, which makes this launch pad not so portable. The metal deflector plate does NOT lock into position, so if you lose the cheap paper tube that sits on it, the plate tilts when you set a rocket on the pad! Who designed this thing?

Safety streamers are included, and they're not even printed; they're just a solid color, even though the instructions show them to be printed on. The adhesive tabs that hold the streamers fell off after an hour.

The overall quality is severely lacking. In my opinion, the price is inexcusably high; the handheld controller couldn't cost more than $3 to make, and the launch pad even less to produce. This controller should retail for no more than $10. I wish I hadn't spent my money on this launcher, and I'm very disappointed.

The Quest Aerospace Model Rocket Launch System is sturdy, functional and a good value. The launch controller uses one alkaline 9V snap terminal battery (not included) which provides plenty of power to the igniter (which starts the rocket engine). This should provide you with enough power for 25-75 launches. Replace the battery annually if you are a regular user. The launch controller provides audible beeps and a blinking red LED (easily visible in bright daylight) when the safety key (included) is inserted. The launch pad comes with the 36" launch rod (2-pieces) and a launch rod cap (remove before flight) which helps indicate wind direction. The pad has a "kick-stand" type foot to provide for angling the rocket to compensate for wind and rocket drift. Only suitable for A through D engine powered rockets. Works with Quest, Estes and most model rockets. This is suitable for classroom and youth group activities. Also a great gift for that youngster that is still interested after flying his or her first rocket. Recommended for age 12 and up, younger only with adult supervision.

Instructions were clear. I wold recommend using a hot glue gun if you r doing it with children under 12 as it takes a lot of patience and time to glue the fins on with Elmers white glue

Bought a bag of Estes rockets for my Grandson for his birthday and this was one of the items I put in the bag. Good birthday gift for a boy.
