About the Author

Ann M. O'Roark is a consulting psychologist who works with individuals and organizations interested in management and leadership development. Dr. O'Roark serves as on-call instructional faculty for the American Management Association's Executive Effectiveness Course and for the Center for Creative Leadership's Leadership Development Program. She is past President of the American Psychological Association's Disvision of Consulting Psychology and recently completed terms as Secretary of the International Council of Psychologists and as Consulting Psychology's Treasurer. Dr. O'Roark served on the Board of the Society for Psychologists in Management and the International Association of Applied Psychology Division of Psychological Assessment. She is a Fellow in the American Psychological Associataion and the Society for Personality Assessment, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Assessment Psychology. Dr. O'Roark serves as Regional Editor, USA and Canada, for World Psychology and on the editorial review board for the Journal of Consulting Psychology.

A basic understanding of what makes people tick, fundamentals of emotion and motivation, are related to executive effectiveness in a way that anyone can understand by Ann O'Roark, who distills her many years of experience with managers in the workplace into perspectives useful to leaders and would-be leaders in any type of setting or organization. Her examples demonstrate clearly how a theoretician who lives in the real world can relate theory to reality in a way that can be truly helpful.

As CEO of small Ferrara Company I find this book most helpful in setting my mind and path straight on many matters in my work. Happily it is an interesting read and study with rules, guides and recommendations that serve well in the conduct of one's own personal and social life as well.
