I find it quite AMUSING when rappers like Lil' Kim and Missy try sing with Jamaican Slang. (They probably need coaching for weeks just to get one phrase :)... but they get an A+ for effort, hehe

It was just a matter of time before the hip hop world discovered Reggae and West Indian culture, just like it has assimilated Spanish and Latino, especially with regards to verbal slang. Particularly, the dancehall reggae world must look exotic, rough and menacing to the uninitiated - a perfect candidate for hip hop to squeeze into it's mold

GOOD thing Kardinal (a man with a REAL Carribean background) came to set the record straight, and show that the Multicultural T-DOT is the ORIGINATOR of mixing these two worlds without loosing the essence of either.

Kardinal is Canadian and not afraid to show it unlike some rappers from Canada like Rascalz & Choclair. Kardinal Offishall does'nt try to imatate people like DMX, Nelly, Ja Rule, Redman, P.Diddy, Method Man, Coolio, Tupac R.I.P EXE. You get the point so here's a list of the songs on the album and my rating for each on.

Tight flows, tight tracks and lyrics....... yeah I'm all for that. Kardinal first was introduced to me on the Tony Touch mix-tape #61 "Comin' Of Da Storm" featuring the track "Mic THUGS" (one of my favorite tracks on the CD). Representing T-D.O.T., Kardinal and Choclair add a new style and twist to the hip-hop game. If this one doesn't hit big on radio, underground should appreciate the realness this CD offers. Sorry, no bling-blinging on this one. For real hip-hop heads only. Favorite tracks: Bakardi Slang, Maxine, Quest For Fire, Powerfull, Go Ahead Den..... cop this CD fast!

Kardinal has true Toronto sounds. He has a perfect mix of reggae and hip-hop(mostly hip-hop) that sounds real unlike other artists who try to sing with a reggae tongue. Barkardi Slang has all the slang you need for Canadian hip-hop communities, not to mention its smooth melody and beat. All the songs on this album are alright with nice beats. Look out for Fire Starter vol. 2, because vol. 1 is "off-the-hook."

Kardinal is a living legend in Canada. I don't know why he don't more respect and fame in the US. You guys are sleeping on a dope emcee. This album is a classic

Kardinal is a Jamaican-Canadian from Toronto, who mixes regae and dancehall beats with rap. Sounds a lil too much for you probably, but trust me its as good as any CD you will ever buy. Im not gonna go compare Kardinal to Tupac or DMX yet but 3 years from now I figure everyone will be, got this CD the day it came out and just decided to write the review now, its that good that 2 years later its still in my CD changer. If you want fresh beats, original lyrics, a new style the likes of which you probably havent heard, then you gotta own this

Kardinal is rockin' the party! This album is probably one of the most creative Hip Hop albums I've ever heard! A mix of every category of Urban music! Get it if you like Dancehall and Reggae Style Rap! Canada is well represented on the map with this album!

I'm so sick and tired of hearing the usual ish like Noreaga, Master P, etc. Guys who get by on dope beats with wack lyrics. Kardinal Offishall who I saw on BET and liked his Bakardi Slang and then saw Ol' Time Killin. After that song, I had to pick this album up and let me tell you I was not mad about going down to the record store and picking this one up. Kardinal even did a underground remix with Busta that's hot too. Kardinal's on the rise up and he's taking his whole city with him. I look forward to firestarter vol. 2 and just would recommend this album up there with the likes of Jay-Z's the Blueprint and Nas' Stillmatic. It's that good. You haven't heard nothing like it. Kardinal's bout to blow up as well as the T-Dot (Toronto).

I had bought this cd entirely based on all the buzz I had heard about Kardinal. I hadn't heard any of the tracks, but thought that I would take a chance. To say I was not disappointed is an understatement. So much of the subject matter in hip hop today is designer labels, money, and misogyny. Kardinal's positive approach is different, and his blend of West Indian, American, and Canadian influences is a refreshing change. Standout tracks on this album are Husslin (rap over a hiphop beat with a dancehall bass-line), Maxine (pure dancehall), Bakardi Slang, U R Ghetto (hilarious), and On wit tha Show. He represents the T.O. and is an exciting voice in hip hop today.

There were 3 or 4 good songs on this album so unless your buying a used one for $5 don't waste your money.
