Graham's books are wonderful however I was expecting more from this then I got BUT I would still recommend this series for anyone who is trying to find out the truth of some of archeology's greatest mysteries.

I watched this series on public television recently and it totally blew me away. How did certain ancient cultures have mathematical knowledge that we didn't have until the 20th century? What's going on with the astronomical alignment of the Egyptian monuments? Why do the mathematical configurations of the pyramids EXACTLY match monuments in South America? And the most freaky question: why did all of these ancient cultures claim they learned this astronomical and mathematical knowledge from the Winged Dragon? I'm telling you, I started calling friends while I was watching. Believe me, it was one of the most entrancing television series I have EVER watched. I don't often feel like I need to own a video but this one I feel I'll watch over and over again. This guy is a genius. You will learn stuff that will blow your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars See "Monuments Of Life" and then buy every tape he's made, April 21, 2001

This review is from: Quest for the Lost Civilization - Boxed Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
To really appreciate all of Mr. Hancock's materials, I recommend viewing the tape Monuments to Life, which is a lecture he gave at Leeds in 1996. In this tape he presents a wide range of his views, and shows his great insights to the ancient clues that surround us here on earth.

One of Mr. Hancock's greatest assets is his contempt for the "stories" we have been told as facts through the years, and his replacement of far more plausible explanations.

I would have to rate Mr. Handcock as a guide in the wilderness, and his insights provide a path to a far more acceptable presentation of the ancient world than any other single speaker.

While I would assume they don't welcome him in Egypt, I welcome him with open arms, and mind, because he looks and reports what he finds, not what he feels will be accepted.

NOTE: The next time you see pyramids with steps, don't think of them as being used to go up, think of them as being used to go down, and see if the picture makes more sense...

5.0 out of 5 stars A new perspective for mankind, March 9, 2000

This review is from: Quest for the Lost Civilization - Boxed Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The series has given me deeper insight into the journey of human spirit as well as a different approach to understanding our origins. I would like to think this further and ask more questions about what the message encoded in the stone structures around the world might mean for our future on this planet. The three videos have actually made me want to learn more about astonomy and watch the skies for the stars that have been part of an ancient knowledge long forgotten. Have we been warned of a future celestial event or have we been informed of a past one? Is there a missing link that will be discovered in the future? Or is this all we have and must look at the evidence with a more open mind? These are fascinating videos and Hancock is very good at explaining complicated matters and theories in very simple terms....

Very difficult to understand why there are only two other reviews. This is one of the best series ever made exploring possible alternatives to the accepted history of mankind.Graham Hancock is conservative and sane in his approach. Information is presented with beautiful visual footage. Breathtaking areas of exploration. I saw this as a documentary, and searched heaven and earth to get a copy. I settled for aa really bad copy, exorbitantly priced, some years ago. And here now is a really good version available. Too exciting!!! What is everyone waiting for? This is a documentary that could expand your view/understanding of the history of the human race on planet earth! And it is intelligently and beautifully done.It delights and entertains while it informs. I recommend this highly. If you have ever wondered about humanity on this planet, and longed to know the secrets, this is a great place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must see for searching enthusiasts, November 21, 1999
This review is from: Quest for the Lost Civilization - Boxed Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have felt inclined to express my views on this box set since i purchased it. I have studied thes topics for over 5 years now. And with this video series it has given me a great visualization of subjects that i have only been able to read about. I want to further extend my thanks to the authors for there dedication in keeping the world informed, on a subject that has many opinions. I recommend this video to anyone. I have leant my videos to many people now and the reviews are the same. It has open the minds of the sceptics i have encountered in my discussions. I also look anxiously forward to any sequels that may continue such a mysterious and intriguing subject. These videos are for everyone! Do yourself a favor and become a part of the experience. It has given me much motivation to study more and understand. My deepest thanks again to the authors and producers!

I enjoyed watching and learning from these videos. Graham Hancock's views are in sharp contrast to what we find in history, anthropology and religious text.
He answered many questions that I was unable to formulate. Interesting is also how he links together findings and supports his theories with astrology and the anxient wisdoms.
Truly a challenging theory.

This box set is WELL WORTH THE MONEY. Educational & very well done.Graham Hancock puts forth very sound theories that make more sense than the theories we learned in school. History is being re-written every day & this box set is a chance to learn the truth about these ancient sites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Re-examining and Attempting to Solve Ancient Mysteries, February 16, 2005
This review is from: Quest for the Lost Civilization - Boxed Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
+++++

Journalist and author Graham Hancock takes us around the world re-examining ancient mysteries and asking puzzling but pertinent questions as he does so. As well, he raises his own speculation and theories as to possibly what really happened.

You will find that the three programs that make up this boxed set touch on many areas such as archaeology, astronomy, mathematics, geology, geophysics, engineering, mythology, climatology, art, and ancient history. All important concepts concerned with in these areas are well explained with the aid of computer graphics, simulation, and animation. Photography of ancient art, artifacts, and the exterior & interior of ancient ruins is superbly done.

What is fantastic about these programs is that the viewer feels that he is exploring along with Hancock as well as experiencing the sense of mystery and awe that Hancock is probably experiencing.

There is brief commentary given by experts such as Egyptologists, geologists, engineers, and mythologists. There is even a brief rebuttal to Hancock's beliefs by experts, such as the Director of the Egyptian pyramids.

Areas of the world Hancock investigates include Southern Europe, Egypt, Cambodia, Mexico, Japan's Pacific Islands, Micronesia, and Easter Island.

Each program begins with a brief introduction that I will reproduce here:

Program #1 entitled Heaven's Mirror. (This is the most interesting program in my
opinion.)

"We're off the coast of the Southern most tip of Japan. I've come to investigate an underwater mystery that could simply rewrite history. This looks like a temple but the last time it was above water was ten thousand years ago. If it is man-made, it's the oldest known structure on Earth. I believe it could prove the existence of a lost civilization."

Program #2: Forgotten Knowledge.

"The Nazca lines in Peru are the biggest drawings in the world. So big, we can only view them complete from the air. Etched in the desert at least two thousand years ago, they must be of a civilization of astronomers. They turn out to be ground maps of the stars, exact representations of the night sky."

Program #3: Ancient Mariners.

"Easter Island statues could hold the secret of what happened in the world before history began. Why did ancient cultures with no known contacts have so much in common? My theory is they derived from a common source: a single, lost
civilization."

These programs mention nothing about UFOs or LGM (little green men). They present a serious, scientific investigation.

Finally, I also recommend the program "The Mystery of the Sphinx" (1993) hosted by Charlton Heston and Hancock's book "Fingerprints of the Gods" (1995).

In conclusion, these programs present to the viewer unanswered questions about ancient mysteries. If you like mysteries like I do, then you must view these programs!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Graham Hancock Is On To Something, July 28, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quest for the Lost Civilization - Boxed Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Following his groundbreaking book, Fingerprints of the Gods, Graham Hancock reinforces his persuasive evidence for the existence of a Lost Civilization that predates what are conventionally considered the first great civilizations. (Also recommended is Hancock's book, Heaven's Mirror, which elaborates the subject with photos and fascinating text). Pointing to the sudden appearance of advanced cultures in widely dispersed locations around the globe, which shared an obsession with astronomical knowledge, megalithic architecture and cultural/religious similarities, Hancock speculates that these cultures may share an earlier, common ancestry. While Hancock states that the attribution of unexplained achievements by "primitive" cultures to alien visitors "doesn't work for me," he builds an impressive mountain of evidence that is ignored by orthodox "paleo-sciences" of all kinds. He does not propose his own answers beyond comments identified as conjecture, but the whole program is aimed at positing the existence of a lost, earlier civilization, and insisting that further research is justified and necessary if we are to know the truth.

The photography, by Hancock's wife, Santha Faiia, is often stunning and the sound track adds to the mood of mystery and wonder.

I highly recommend this program to anyone with an open mind and curiosity over why these early civilizations suddenly appeared, with technological and astronomical sophistication lacking any evidence of preceding evolution and development.

After viewing this program, if you haven't already done so, read "Fingerprints of the Gods." It's teriffic!
