Quest bars: I wrote this every time I tried a new flavor. Hence these ideas are pretty accurate, from my point of view.

UPDATE:May 2013:

Apple pie is now my 4th fav after cookie dough, banana muffin and mixed berry.

In short, the All natural line has less sweetener after taste, except for some flavors like Apple Pie and Mixed Berry Bliss, which still taste great despite the sucralose and not having stevia. I have gravitated to Apple pie and Mixed berry as my favorites, as the bars stay reasonably moist. The apple bits are real and I haven't tired of the taste. The unusual thing is, I can't taste the sweetener aftertaste. Plus its only 170 Cals

NEW LINE (STEVIA)

1.Strawberry cheesecake all natural line

The first my wife and I tried. Chewy, quite filling, mildly sweet, not extremely delicious, 160 cal **** taste B+

2.Cinnamon roll 170 Cal
Chewy, cookie like, cinnamon flavour subtle. Coconut seems to be there too. Not very sweet and artificial sweetener not very prominent. Quite filling.Tasty **** B+

3..Chocolate peanut butter 160 Cal
Chewy, like chocolate brownie, less aftertaste, also less taste B ***
Browner, better tasting than the sucralose brownie. Though I find I really don't enjoy peanut butter flavours

4. Lemon Cream pie 170 cal
Lemony taste, as expected ! Chewy, no fruit bits, almond flecks? Aftertaste not too bad. Taste: B minus ***

5. Coconut cashew 170 cal

Tastes of real coconut. Has the same stippled beige appearance most of the bars have. Am not a great coconut fan. Sweetener is stevia and seems to make some difference. Has real cashew bits . Taste B ***

OLD LINE (SUCRALOSE)

1.

I bought a box of the apple pie flavor and was delighted... at first.

They taste great. They're a nice size, too. Just one bar fills me up, so I thought I'd discovered a great new low-carb breakfast to enjoy with a mug of coffee at my computer. Quest bars are wonderfully chewy, so it takes me ten minutes to finish one--and then I feel like I've had an actual meal and not one of those three-quick-bites-and-it's-gone bars. BUT...

They spike my blood sugar something awful. I'm a Type 2 diabetic who keeps things under VERY good control with a low-carb diet. (Fasting BG is usually 85; last month's A1c was 5.4--down from 9.4 when I was diagnosed 18 months ago.) I test my postprandial sugars at one hour because I'm almost always back down to pre-meal numbers at two hours. I limit my breakfasts to about 10g carbs, so I got pretty excited when I read the Quest bar label and then tasted my first bar. But an hour after eating, my BG had gone from 83 to 120. That's what I would expect from a "splurge-y" breakfast of about 30g carbs. (For example, a small blueberry muffin with a cafe latte.)

Two days later, I repeated the test and went from 83 to 120. The following day, I started at 78 and shot up to 140! And just now, I went from 80 to 134 in one hour. That's just unacceptable, so I guess it's back to the eggy breakfasts for me--although I'll keep the Quest bars in my purse for emergency rations. They really are tasty and filling, and my blood sugars are always much calmer in the afternoons.

I don't know what's in the bars that's spiking my blood sugar. I wouldn't expect it to be the oligosaccharides, but who knows?

Diabetics, beware. Before you buy a whole box, find yourself a couple of sample bars and TEST them.

I think I've tried 5 other flavors of Quest bars so far. I picked them up at GNC just to check out the taste then I actually ordered these. It's so weird how people's taste can be so different. I think the other flavors are pretty gross except the mixed berry and I expected to really like the lemon but I threw it away after 2 small bites. So, I would suggest you see if you can find a place that sells individual bars that you try them before investing in a whole box because they're a little pricey.

Updated 1/20/2014. I won't be repurchasing these since they kick me out of ketosis. I also crave them (like I do all sugar) and another reviewer noted that they shouldn't be making me feel this way so I used my strips to check. Too bad. I really do like the taste. Maybe they don't affect other people the same way.

Quest Bars are THE BEST protein bars out there. THey are simply delicious, and I've converted a bunch of people from haters to lovers of these bars. I've yet to find them in a store near me, but who cares when Amazon's around. I do the majority of my shopping on Amazon..so thanks, Amazon for having these lucious (and fiber-rich) bars!

Yes, it's sweet and chewy, but it has just one gram of sugar. I make a breakfast or lunch out of one bar by adding sliced strawberries alongside the bar, or by breaking it up and throwing into a half cup of 0 fat Greek yogurt. Delicious!

These bars have great flavor and are very satisfying as either a snack or a meal replacement. I heat mine in the microwave for 11 seconds, which makes them like warm cookies or hot apple pie. Highly recommended.
