4.0 out of 5 stars Great Volume of All things Ancient, June 12, 2011
This review is from: Quest for the Past (Hardcover)
This is from a bygone era when Reader's Digest would produce these large format books chock full of information (see also Mysteries Of The Ancient Americas & The World's Last Mysteries). They managed to fit in a wide range of fascinating tidbits from history that you often don't get from government-sponsered education. Fairly accurate and sometimes ahead of their time. This book talks of very early settlement of the Americas, something not widely accepted until recently (see Settlement Of The Americas A New Prehistory). Or the suggestion that some Neaderthals survived in the wild (i.e. "Bigfoot" and "wildman" legends) and events in Exodus and their relation to catastrophes (see The Miracles of Exodus: A Scientist's Discovery of the Extraordinary Natural Causes of the Biblical Stories. Sure some things are out of date (see Who Was Adam? for the latest on man's origins), but this book is over 25 years old. Overall it is a valuable reference. Many are still floating around out there, so get them and maybe someday we'll see reissues of these great books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference book, January 14, 2005

This review is from: Quest for the Past (Hardcover)
This book is a very good reference book. It is especially good for the younger ages. It will challenge their minds, and give them the impetus to look closer into the areas of history that interest them. I am a substitute teacher for all grades and also provide tutoring. I've found that these types of books can ignite the spark in the student's mind to want to do further investigation.
