The list author says: "A complete list of Dennis O'Neil's 'Recommended Reading' suggestions from the letters pages of his late 1980s/early 1990s DC Comics series, The Question. For the curious: The Question (created in 1967 by comics legend Steve Ditko) is a sort of introspective Zen-Meets-Batman vigilante. The series was quite thought-provoking and definitely ahead of its time; O'Neil's run included 36 regular issues, two annuals, a quintet of 'Question Quarterly' issues that succeeded the series proper, and a 'Question Returns' one-shot in 1997.
This list is part 1 of 2, and covers everything recommended during the first 36 issues. The list continues in part 2, where I also include links to the aforementioned trade paperbacks."
"This volume collects three books. The first two (The Wandering Taoist and Seven Bamboo Tablets of the Cloudy Satchel) are recommend in The Question (Vol. 1) #9 (Oct. 1987). The third (Gateway to a Vast World) is recommended in The Question (Vol. 1) #32 (Nov. 1989)."
"Recommended in The Question (Vol. 1) #17 (June 1988). For the uninitiated, the characters featured in this graphic novel are based on various Charlton Comics characters (now owned by DC Comics). The Question serves as inspiration for the character of Rorschach."
"Recommended in The Question (Vol. 1) #18 (July 1988). This is the specific translation that O'Neil lists, though I highly recommend Roger T. Ames' translation from the Classics of Ancient China series."
