An exercise in lying?,

This review is from: A Question of Scruples - The Game of Moral Dilemmas (Board Game)
In this game players respond to ethical (or unethical) situations, and the other players have to decide whether they believe the answer is truthful or not. I have played this game several times with a variety of people, some whom I know well, others not so well. What I have found is that in most cases players quickly learn that they get ahead in the game more quickly when they find ways to mislead their opponents. This includes conveying answers of partial truth, and even out and out lying. That bothers me. There is no penalty for lying or benefit for telling the truth when someone responds to the ethical situations presented during the game. This can be a fun game, but I find games like "Therapy" by Pressman Toys to be a better ice breaker and get-to-know-you game than this one. A passable game, but not destined to be a classic. I had a holiday gathering last night and we used my new Scruples game as part of the festivities.. it was fabulous! We did not formally play the game (people were in and out) but we took turns reading the cards. The group really did not know each other well and we learned a lot about everyone there... I also recieved a lot of compliments on the box design and packaging... Several of the participants expressed that they were going to go out and buy the game... Definitely not for kids though... (without a little parental intervention, many of the cards deal with adult sexual and workplace situations) I have used the last version of the game with an group of college freshman with great success!

The game is an awesome ice-breaker for a new group. And if you are playing with an existing group of friends, watch out, you are going to find out (often to your delight OR horror) what others think of your personality. However, one prerequisite: everybody must know at least one other person in the group.

This game guarantees that you get to know complete strangers in 15 minutes, and are at each others throats in the next half hour. Essentially a "what if" game, where there is no correct answer - essentially it is defense of one's viewpoint against the impression friends & strangers. Great way for singles and couples to get to know each other

I played this game during my university days when I was stuck in my dorm during the summer months. I have never had so much fun with a board game. It was an absolute laugh-a-minute. As many people as you want can play, and each person gets to ask a question, usually a loaded question like, "You know you are attractive. Do you use your sex appeal to get ahead in your career?" The person who the question is directed at answers and then you and the other players debate whether you believe his/her answer. I would recommend that you play this game with people you are comfortable with such as family and friends as there can be many arguments along the way. However it is a fun game for anyone over 18, and if you want to learn about how your friends and family really think, then get this game, it might shock the socks off you, but at least you won't be board of this Board Game...OUCH...what a dreadful pun!

I played this game in Cape Town over Christmas 1998 and have been dying to get hold of a copy ever since. For a group of people who know eachother well or who feel comfortable enough to bear their true (or bluffing) personalities in front of all....have fun. A lot of fun, a lot of laughs and certainly a lot of debating. I can't wait to play it again...be prepared to confront the moral you!

This is a great game forthe holidays...it's a tradition in our home.Fun and easy for teenagers thru adults. You can learna lot about the other players after just one game. This game can bea real ice breaker or away to get to know your family better. Expect alot of laughs, boos, andother assorted comments. Buy two of these games, keep one for yourself andgive the other as a gift, it's perfect for all occasions, but especially wonderful for a Christmas present, so that you canopen it up right then and all can enjoy.

Glad to have found a used version of this game. The family had so much fun finding out how our values and beliefs had changed over the years. Looking forward to playing again every 3 day weekend from now on - just like the good old days!
