Hmmm ... I really don't understand the negative reviews for this. Well, in one sense I do. I am not that familiar with Chris Stamey or the dBs. So I wouldn't know what to expect from that point of view. But I have almost everything YLT has done. So from the standpoint of being a Yo La Tengo fan, I really dig this CD. Anyone out there who is a YLT fan knows that to be a fan of that band, you have to be open to the very large diversity of music and styles that they have incorporated into their catalog over the years. I simply see this as one more dimension to what they have already done. To me, this is a "Yo La Tengo with Chris Stamey" release, similar to what they did with Jad Fair previously. I strongly recommend this disc ... to YLT fans. :-)

back to the studio,

I bought this cd because of Chris Stamey's work with the the dB's and his talent as a producer. None of the covers on this disc really compares favorably with the originals and the original songs are nowhere near as strong as his contributions to the dB's albums or his production efforts. If you are interested in this artist check out the early works of the dB's,try to find a copy of Mavericks w/Peter Holsapple or listen to his production of Whiskeytown, Yo La Tengo and Alex Chilton among others.

unfortunate,

I love most of Stamey's solo stuff, I like YoLaTengo...but how did they get the idea to do a joint-live-covers disk....just doesn't work
