This book is an invaluable resource for me. I borrowed it from the library then decided to purchase a copy. My 2.3 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with UC and this book touched on just about everything I wanted to know. Although she is very young and the info on children was small, I gained a lot of important information about every aspect from symptoms, diagnosis, treatments and surgery to her future in dealing with this disease and possiblity of her increased risk of cancer. In between are true accounts of people with both Crohn's and UC and their experiences with different medicines, flare-ups and emotional issues. What I came away realizing is that IBD is unique for each person and along with the many options for managing symptoms and flare-ups, how well a person's chance to remain in remission will depend on the individual and how they respond both mentally and physically. There are no quick fixes nor are there magic combinations that work for everyone. There are also no guarantees that you can eliminate flare-ups or predict when you may have them. But you can become aware of your body, your options, your triggers and your outlook. If you are looking for an up to date resource for a newly diagnosed UC or CD I highly recommend this book.

This book has most of the answers to the questions about these horrible diseases. Dr. Warner is our doctor and is very dedicated and knowledgeable.
The book gives information in a concise and informative manner. I have given copies to people I know who have these diseases in the hope that they will become informed health consumers. Everyone has been very thankful for the information.

When I was very very sick and newly diagnosed with Crohn's, I needed information fast. This, more than any other book I ordered, was the most helpful and easiest to look up random questions as they came up. It was so helpful. I highly recommend it. Also, this is the only time I have used the next day delivery postage for a book and I am so glad I did.

This book is extremely helpful in answering questions you may have and some you may not have thought to ask. Highly recommended as one of the top two layperson-oriented books to read if you have Crohn's or colitis.

This book answered so many of my questions, and helped make me confident in treating my crohns disease. I was also encouraged to join a support group where I could seek help and also help others. Finding the site [...] has also helped me a lot. Overall this book has changed the way I live and made me realize this disease in manageable with some knowledge.

This book is a must have for anyone with IBD. Reading it is like a private one on one consultation with your provider about everything you have been wanting to ask about IBD but did not have time. A very useful resource and something I use frequently.

I recently purchased this book after owning an older version and losing it. The format of this book is easy to follow and draws you in so you want to read the whole thing in one sitting. Very informative about all forms of IBD. The personal remarks also made this book one I would recommend to anyone who is newly diagnosed or in any stage of IBD. This is not a dry, hard to read book and addresses just about any question you can think of about IBD in an open and engaging manner. I will keep this forever and lend it out often. I was diagnosed with UC in 2008 and am now in remission, so with the pressure off, I can read this without being panicked and be more objective about each subject. I refer back to this often when I read something new about UC or meet someone new who has IBD and they have questions. There are also great suggestions as to how to approach your doctor with questions about treatment. I wish the authors were MY doctor!!

My husband was diagnosed recently with Ulcerative Colitis. He's in the military so we dont get to pick and choose doctors and unfortunately its been really hard getting answers out of the Dr. he is seeing currently. As a wife its been so hard to see my husband in such pain. For a condition that is relatively rare its great that this book is available to answer the most basic questions and give the two of us an idea of whats to come. Even after skimming through a few pages I felt I was more aware of his condition. Having read the book I was alarmed at how little his Dr. told us as well as the level of care he has recieved. Ill keep this book (and others) close by as well as the contact information for patient advocates in our area.
