At last an easy, understandable recovery guide for anxiety, November 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Questions Most Asked about Anxiety and Phobias (Paperback)
This book is it. If you suffer as I did from anxiety, panic attacks and phobias then this book by Jane Miller is a must read. The tools and technigues if used on a regular basis cannot help but to lead any phobic down the path toward recovery. We use this book in our groups because it is very easy to grasp the seven essential steps toward recovery and to then apply them to your individual needs. In my own path toward recovery I found the two most important steps were changing my belief system and relaxation. You cannot be relaxed and tense at the same time, therefore why not practice and get real good at relaxation. As far as the belief system is concerned, we all have heard the statement, '" You are what you eat", well you're also what you tell yourself you are, so be smart and tell yourself good positive things instead of scary negative things and in time you will be surprised at the results. The author, Jane Miller knows her stuff and has had some great help from colleagues and clients in putting this book together to the benefit of all that may read this book.

Clear and readable introduction to a widespread problem, March 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Questions Most Asked about Anxiety and Phobias (Paperback)
Social phobias and performance anxiety are surprisingly widespread in our society. Miller avoids psycho-babble and uses good clear language to describe the common phobias and propose techniques for self help. As a psychotherapist with a long background in treating anxiety disorders, she seems to get right to the heart of the matter. Useful both to the person who wants a self-help guide and to the interested layman who simply wants a better understanding of the problem. This book is much easier to read than the expensive and intimidating professional books on the same topic.

Jane Miller's attitude towards phobics makes her book unique, April 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Questions Most Asked about Anxiety and Phobias (Paperback)
I found a striking difference in Jane Miller's book from the many others of the same genre. Most such books are written by "former" phobics who subtly bring to their books all the self-depreciating attitudes and negative emotions that seem to be inherent in anxiety sufferers. Jane Miller on the other hand, conveys the fact that she has rarely been afraid of anything and more importantly she conveys her admiration for the courage of folks who on a daily basis deal with very uncomfortable fears. It is this loving respect she gives her readers, as she guides them toward relief, that is so wonderful. Every chapter has some suggestion, some explanation or some exercise that changes the way the reader perceives his or her anxious moments. Ms. Miller's pride in their courage and her faith in their ability to progress is very empowering.
