5.0 out of 5 stars Where was this book 15yrs ago?
My children are in their late teens and oh how I wish I had access to this book 15 years ago!
This is not your typical "here is my opinion and here's a story" type book. When I saw that

My children are in their late teens and oh how I wish I had access to this book 15 years ago!
This is not your typical "here is my opinion and here's a story" type book. When I saw that
8 doctors contributed to it, I knew I could trust the medical accuracy. My teenagers are now
going hear current stats, facts and my values from me, but I will now have the authority of their pediatrician.
I would highly recommend this for any parent looking for ways to communicate the medical risks of premarital sex with their children.

This review is from: Questions Kids Ask about Sex: Honest Answers for Every Age (Hardcover)
As a single mother attempting to raise a son in todays environment many situations arise that outside help becomes a blessing. Questions pertaining to sexual behavior is one of these circumstances. I found this book extremely helpful in that it presented me with information as well as ways to approach a healthy conversation with my son in regard to sexual habits and consequences. Upon reading the book I felt very comfortable giving it to my son to read which enabled the door to discussing more than I had ever thought possible. My son informed me that some of the questions that he previously felt to embarressed to ask were answered. To my relief and joy we have a closer and more open relationship which enables discussions I never thought possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical, research-based resource for parents, October 28, 2005
This review is from: Questions Kids Ask about Sex: Honest Answers for Every Age (Hardcover)
I found this book to be both accurate and research-based, with practical information for parents and educators alike. The authors discuss human sexuality in each of its contexts-physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual-to provide a holistic and healthy view of sex and sex education for adolescents. Moreover, the book's focus on educating parents supports the well-documented research demonstrating that parents have the greatest influence in their teens' sexual decisions. In fact, in a recent study done by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, approximately 87% of teens said, "it would be easier for them to postpone sexual activity and avoid teen pregnancy if they were able to have more open, honest conversations with their parents." Questions Kids Ask About Sex provides the foundation and information for such conversations.

The book includes solid information about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraceptives for parents. The authors discuss the risks, transmission, and symptoms of major STIs They also provide an overview of the main types of contraceptives, including the use and limitations of each in preventing pregnancy and STIs. Additionally, the book is well footnoted, and it cites multiple reputable sources, such as the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, medical textbooks, and prominent medical journals. Questions Kids Ask About Sex offers medically accurate information with real-life applications, and I highly recommend it to all parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!, February 10, 2006

I bought this book after I had my 3rd child and my 7 year old was asking questions about how the baby got in my tummy and how the baby came out. This book was wonderful in helping me to know how to answer those questions to my 7 year old. This book has great ideas and advice on how to speak with your children about everything to do with sex. I love this book! It tells you how to talk with your kids ranging in age from preschool to adulthood! It's the best book I've found out there on answering kids questions about sex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Refreshing, October 28, 2005
This review is from: Questions Kids Ask about Sex: Honest Answers for Every Age (Hardcover)
I am a mother of three children and this is the first book I have been comfortable using as a resource to help answer the tough questions. I plan to tell everyone I know to read this book, because it provides solid, age-appropriate information. This book is a gift and as parents we need to take the time to create a dialog with our kids about their sexuality.

5.0 out of 5 stars an educated father's opinion, October 31, 2005
By
This review is from: Questions Kids Ask about Sex: Honest Answers for Every Age (Hardcover)
I've read many books about "sex and sexuality." To be honest, this one was not what I thought. This book is very medically accurate and was strong on it's logic and rational thought. Obviously, there are those whose lifestyle will not appreciate this work - they will think it discriminatory. It is not. It shares simple truth about sex, sexuality, and the outcomes as perceived by physicians who see the true consequences that result from sex outside of the ideal context: marriage.

You want your kids to train for faithfulness in marriage? Buy this book. If not, buy something that promotes promiscuity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good info., February 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Questions Kids Ask about Sex: Honest Answers for Every Age (Hardcover)
I think this book gives very good information. However, I was recently asked by my 3yo how a baby gets in the mommy's tummy. I totally flubbed and didn't really answer the question. I think I need to go back and re-read the book (when I get it back from my friend).

It does harp on how to teach clear gender boundaries, which I appreciate. If you don't want to hear it, don't buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best alternatives so far, December 2, 2010
By
I think this book contains sound advice from doctors surely to help your teenager (or even yourself, it did to me). Contributed to by true professional doctors, not social activists, I think is information you can trust on.

Like the title says, it covers information appropriate for early and late teenage years, so you can use the parts of the book most appropriate to your situation. But the entire book is interesting and sprinkled also with good parenting advice.

A companion book can be "You are teaching my child what?" by Dr. Miriam Grossman.

The book was very educational. I found the book to be reader friednly. As a mother to a pre-pubertal son, these issues are sensitive. This book taught me to let the child ask questions then address issues (being careful not to give to much information). Thanks for such an informative book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Biased and potentially damaging, January 30, 2008
As a medical professional I see patients that have issues dealing with their parents about these topics. This book would often help aleinate a child from their parents if the child did not directly agree with the books teachings. For example, if a child came out to his or her parents, it recommends writing a letter saying how you disapprove and want them to change to strait. I don't know how many homosexuals the authors have actually met, but that would be one of the most damaging responses possible to a relationship with the young adult.

I would recommend to find a book without an extreme biased. LOOK ELSEWHERE
