This book include material from the brilliant Alpha Course that I've done 2 times. If you can do the course, it is a better bet than just reading the book, but get the book anyway, since you'll wanna read it more than once.

Basically, it is aimed at people who are sceptical and even hostile towards the Christian faith. It is not denominational so it doesn't matter if you're catholic or protestant, it is about biblical Christianity and therefore equally applicable to all.

If you doubt the truth, relevance and importance of the Christian faith, take this book with an open mind and you're life will most likely be transformed. If it isn't you will no doubt at least be tickled to find out more and investigate some more. Like C.S Lewis said: If there is no truth to Christianity, it is of no importance (and Christians will be no better or worse of than anybody else), but if there is truth to it, it is of infinite importance.

I was an agnostic and extreme sceptic for many years, and the first Alpha course tickled me to read a lot more about Christianity. The second time I did the course was the most amazing experience I ever had, and since then there are no doubts in my mind. Furthermore, the peace and joy I am experiencing is certainly from somewhere other than myself, and it all started with the Alpha course.

Do yourself a huge favour and get this.

This was a great little "tidy up the jumble" book for me. Up until I read this book, I was getting so much information on the Lord from so many different sources (many of the books on this list) that it started to seem so confusing and difficult! But after a quick 2-day read through Nicky Gumbel's book, I could literally FEEL all the different pieces clicking into place. And now, I am very comfortable with my religion and in the knowledge I gain about it each day. It's just such a great "overview / summary" book, you really should give it a try!

I recommend this book to all who question their faith or have NO faith at all. For me it answered, why was I created? What is my purpose for living? What are my resonsibilities to self, family, and others? No dictionary is needed in reading this book, just an open mind. Includes Study Guide questions for each chapter at the end of the book. Lookup each bible verse and read it for yourself. Review the questions before reading. If you can, enroll in an ALPHA Course. Your Faith, Hope, and Love will flourish.
