Great Book for your inquisitive toddler!,
By Farrah Brown "www.babyloveslings.com" (Glendale Heights, IL United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Questions from Little Hearts (Little Blessings) (Hardcover)
When I heard the title of the first book, I was immediately sold! Questions from Little Hearts... sounds perfect for us. And it is. The book is divided into four sections: What is God Like? What is Prayer? What about Heaven? and Are Angels Real? I love that this book poses the questions that a toddler would really ask and then gives the answers in a way that keeps their attention and satisfies their curiosity.
"Is heaven a place that is near or that's far? can I get to heaven by boat or by car? How will I find it? Who'll show me the way? Does heaven have nighttime? And what about day? ... Though heaven's a place that you can't see from here, It says in the Bible that heaven is near. You don't have to know how to fly or to swim. The way is with Jesus, believing in him." At the end of each section, the author lists the scripture references for the answers they suggest. We love it. We read at least one section a day and he often asks for the one he wants. "Mommy, let's read about prayer today." And we always read the scriptures at the end and he has started asking me to show him where to find "those words" in the Bible. So we pull out the Bible and flip to a couple of the verses and read them there too. It is precious, teachable moments like these that make me feel like maybe I am capable of training my child the way God has called me to. I highly recommend this book for anyone whose little one has questions, lots of questions, like mine. It is easy to read and has sparked many really great conversations with me and my curious toddler. [..]

Questions From Little Hearts is a precious combination of four Little Blessings books by author Kathleen Bostrom into one volume.
This book is designed to help parents answer their kids' questions about God, heaven, angels and prayer. It provides simple, theologically sound answers with scripture references at the end of each section to give biblical support to the answers given. I found this book to be just adorable! The rhyming text and colorful illustrations made it a joy to read. It's nice to see a book that teaches Christian values to little ones.

Wonderful Devotional!,

"I'll love you forever,
whatever you do, For nothing can separate my love from you." Questions From Little Hearts is an inviting little volume full of sweet illustrations of children (and when I say full I mean it - kids are going to love all the pictures!) and answers to questions our little ones might have. These questions and answers are simply presented through whimsical rhyme and in a way that will help kids see that their questions are normal - and that they can all be answered in the bible. The first questions ask about God: "Are you big? Are you little? Are you short or tall? Can you really see me when I am so small? Are you strong or gentle? Are you ever sad? Do you have a temper like me when I'm mad?" I like that the questions are written to God and answered by God, encouraging children to talk to Him in a personal way and not to be ashamed of their questions. The answers from God are printed in italics and the verse stays very similar in wording to verses in the Bible describing God, which I LOVE of course. "I'm strong as a fortress, a rock, and a shield, but gentle as rain falling softly on fields." Questions from Little Hearts is an omnibus of four books in one. Each book or chapter asks a question: What is God Like? What is Prayer? What About Heaven? Are Angels Real? At the end of each chapter you'll find a helpful collection of bible references. I found this book to be a treasure - I can't wait to read it to my little girl!

A Must Have for All Christian Parents/Grandparents/Teachers!,

"QUESTIONS from little hearts by Kathleen Long Bostrom and illustrated by Elena Kucharik (illustrator for the popular 80's CareBears) is perfect to have on hand for those times when your young child has a theological question you're looking for just the right answer on. A combination of four Little Blessings books, broken down in to four sections, these 288 pages will well equip you for any question your child might pose about God, prayer, angels, and Heaven.
Parents will relish finding having a kid friendly answer guide at their fingertips. Better yet, you won't feel like you're just doling out uninformed or unsubstantiated information either. With a handy dandy Biblical reference guide at the end of each section, parents will be able to quickly follow up with Biblical support on each answer the previous poetic response from God gave. In this way you'll be able to show your child how God's answers can truly be found in His Word, and you'll likely be laying a foundation to teach them to go to the Word in the future when they have a question for God that they just can't seem to understand themselves. This is a lifelong lesson every Christian should be taught." To read this review in its entirity, please visit www.readysetreadreviews.blogspot.com.

Wonderful Gift of Reading for Little Ones,
By
This review is from: Questions from Little Hearts (Little Blessings) (Hardcover)
Don't you love the innocence of little children, when they ask about God - many times simple yet still, so deep? One of our younger girls asked me recently if our stillborn daughter is a "real angel" in heaven.
Questions from Little Hearts by Kathleen Long Bostrom, is such a delightful book with whimsical rhyming prose to quickly capture and keep children's attention. After giving in to "read it again, mama" my little ones knew what some of the rhyming words would be, "reading" along with me in unison. And our question on angels was even answered! Are there many angels, or only a few? When I go to heaven, can I be one too? Just how many are there? What is the amount? Thousand and millions - too many to count! ~ ~ ~ Now, maybe you think it would be lots of fun To be a real angel when this life is done. We won't become angels, but that is OK. We'll all be together in heaven someday. This book is perfect for young little ones. A few pages may be just enough for a quiet time before bed, or a whole chapter book. Perhaps it would be perfect to keep at grandma's house for special reading time. You might find this the ideal book for little ones to carry to church to keep them quiet during a service. With having young ones myself who love this book, I highly recommend it!

Great choice,

This wonderful book gathers together FOUR books into one collection: What is God Like? What is Prayer? What About Heaven? and Are Angels Real?
It uses rhyme. But the rhyme stays on the good side of dinky. In other words, it doesn't cross the line into dinky. It actually works. Now, the rhyme isn't 100% perfect, there are a few places in all four books as a whole, where the rhythm or the rhyme doesn't quite flow perfectly. But if I were to give it a grade--it'd definitely be an A. The format is question and answer. They'll be a poem asking a series of questions. And then they'll be a follow-up poem answering those questions (and so much more!). The book uses Scripture. After both set of poems, you'll find a "Bible References" section that repeats the second poem--in bold--but this time you'll find scripture verses and references. For each line of that poem, you've got scripture proofs that it really is so. The book is multicultural in that the illustrations are diverse--God isn't just for white folks after all. Granted, this isn't a big deal. But I like to see all sorts of children represented. And perhaps just perhaps it could have been done better. But it works. The illustrations. I didn't love the illustrations. I did like them however. They have a Precious Moments-ish feel about them. Bordering between cutesie and dinky. I think they work relatively well. Personally, I like a different type of illustration style better. (More realistic, less greeting card) But they're nice enough, good enough. To give you a taste of the poems... I can't see you, God, so please give me a clue: Do you look like me, and do I look like you? Are you big or little? Are you short or tall? Can you really see me when I am so small? Do you like to whisper? Do you like to shout? Can you sing or whistle? I'd like to find out. Are you strong or gentle? Are you ever sad? Do you have a temper like me when I'm mad? Where do you live? In a house in the sky? How do I know you are somewhere nearby? Do you love me always, or just when I'm good? I don't always do things the way that I should. I have lots of questions to ask you like these. I wonder if maybe you'll answer them, please? I just love it. I do. There's an easiness to it. A naturalness that just makes this book work well. If you've read my blog long, you know that I can be harsh when it comes to picture books and rhyming. But in my opinion, this one is truly great in its field.

Beautifully written truths for little ones.,
By Carrie Kitzmiller "voracious reader and homes... (Colville, WA, USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Questions from Little Hearts (Little Blessings) (Hardcover)
Questions from Little Hearts is the kind of book I wish I had when the kids were smaller. The pictures are beautiful, the rhyming text is delightful, and the questions are just the sort that toddlers and young children are constantly asking.
There are four sections to this book, each one answering important questions about the nature of God, Heaven, prayer, and angels. The questions are asked, then answered, in rhyming text. At the end of each section, the questions are answered again, this time with Scripture verses explaining where the answers are found in the Bible. Here's a sample from the section on Heaven: "I know God loves me. Of this there's no doubt. But what about heaven? What's that all about?.... (snip) All questions have answers, but some you won't learn Till God says it's time for his Son to return. Your questions are good ones, so let's dive right in And see what the Bible says. Ready? Begin! Though heaven's a place that you can't see from here, It says in the Bible that heaven is near. You don't need to know how to fly or to swim. The way is with Jesus, believing in Him." The author then goes on to expound on what we do know about heaven, all told in language that small children will readily understand. This is a perfect book to read with your young ones, and should lead to some great discussions. |
