Folk metal fathers commit a MASTERPIECE again!, January 4, 2003
Once more Folk Metal fathers perpetrate a piece of art. Even if the whole album were a disaster ...Eileen cover would save it, it is alone well worth the price. The band is veritably KILLING!, guitars and bass flying, drums bursting... all around , and, most importantly, beer inspired violin and drowned vocals taking you right to a crowded Irish bar late at night (...or, more properly, very early in the morning) into the happiest alcoholic singalong of your life! No doubt this songs best version. But the rest of the album is far from being a failure If I die laughing..., History lessens and Penny dreadful Shilling Mix, for example, account for more contagious exhilaration and head-banging at full force. They did it again! Long live the Kings! CHEERS!

Pretty good, September 3, 2006
This review is from: Qui Avant-Garde (Audio CD)
This is my first Skyclad album, so I cannot give a comparison to the rest of their works, but if you haven't heard skyclad, then maybe this review will be more relevant for you. Basically, they have a great sound, very new and fun to listen to. This CD had some new material and some covers, and it was all around pretty good except for some filler tracks (or at least tracks I didn't like, maybe not fillers...). Penny Dreadful was very very good, I must have listened to it 10 times, History Lesson was great, Eileen was great. This band doesn't seem to carry their folk song to an extreme, its more subtle, and I like that a little more than other bands like Elvenking.
I really really like the style of music these guys are playing but to be honest, I think this isn't even really supposed to be a full album so if you're going to buy Skyclad, I'd buy one of their other things (if you like heavy metal with folk influence, you won't be disappointed).
