Revolutionary Birdspa bird bath refills and cleans itself. This decorative, lightweight fiberglass bath is actually a 6 gallon micro pond that includes an easy to clean biological pre-filter that protects the pump from larger debris and provides a place for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonize. These bacteria break down bird waste and other organic contaminants making them unavailable as a food source for algae. The 140 GPH pump provides ample water movements and re-circulates the water from the bottom reservoir, through the hole in the decorative top, into the bathing dish where it flows back unseen into the reservoir. This re-circulating provides three benefits: 1) The bubbling action of the water is very attractive to birds (and people!) 2) It aerates the water and breaks any surface tension so mosquitos won't use this source of water to breed! 3) It filters out dirt and other debris from the water. The refilling function is controlled by a simple and adjustable mini-valve located in the bottom reservoir. 50 ft of easy to bury or conceal black 1/4 in poly tubing delivers the water from a standard outside faucet. A Y-valve allows you to have your garden hose on one outlet and the tubing to the bath on the other. All that is needed to keep the BirdSpa refilled is very low pressure/volume of water flow. However, the refilling feature is optional - you don't need to hook it up to operate the BirdSpa. It just makes it much easier to maintain.
