5.0 out of 5 stars This book is great
This is the greatest indian vegetarian book. The recipes are easy to follow, they are quick and the result is excellent. The writer makes everything so exciting and her love for cooking is sent to the reader with her text. This is the perfect present for anyone interested in indian cooking- vegetarian or non-veg as the recipes can be adapted for meat eaters and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Recipes just didn't work !
I am a seasoned cook and have worked with several Indian cookbooks and I tried a couple of recipes in this book. They didn't work for me. The Okra stir-fry was terribly overspiced- I had to throw it out and the Yogurt soup was just ok.
Others who have reviewed the book on this site seemed to like it but I don't know......They didn't seem much quicker than other...

This is the perfect present for anyone interested in indian cooking- vegetarian or non-veg as the recipes can be adapted for meat eaters and taste so great, can be eaten as they are. My favorite book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Delicious, April 3, 2002
This review is from: Quick After-Work Indian Vegetarian Cookbook (Quick After-Work Cookbook Series) (Paperback)
This is quite simply an excellent cookbook. Given I have had hardly any experience with Indian cooking I found this book both informative and simple to follow. There are plenty of choices (in fact the only difficulty is deciding which recipe to choose!), and the dishes are delicious and healthy. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An oldy but goody, September 1, 2010

I am always on the lookout for vegetarian cookbooks that are fun and exciting. There are just a few vegetarian cookbooks out there that I recommend a cook should have. One of them is Kumud Shah's. This is an older book. It is published in the UK and uses terminology that is British rather than American. There are some small mistakes in one or two recipes that could have been caught by a better editor, test-kitchen staffer. So why would I still recommend this book despite all these issues?

Because it is not in the least bit intimidating for someone new to Indian cooking or just cooking. It contains ideas and recipes that even a seasoned cook could enjoy. This is my third copy of the book as I have had friends and family take away my other copies over the years. This book contains north Indian and west Indian recipes.

Most of the recipes in this book are simple and good for novices. I don't give it 5 stars because some of the recipes seem to get proportions wrong but I was still able to modify and use these. This is the book I purchase to give to friends who are learning to cook Indian food as it is easy to follow.
