4.0 out of 5 stars biting vampire romance, October 25, 2005
Psychologist Dr. Greg Hewitt closes the office feeling rather good because officially his first vacation since seemingly forever has just begun. He had eight years of practice and school before that with no time off, but now he is going to spend R&R in Mexico at least that is what he thought. Instead he has been abducted and finds himself tied up on a bed.

Vampiress Lissianna Argeneau has a minor problem; she becomes ill at the sight of blood. Thus to feed she barbarically selects humans instead of the civilized modern use of blood banks. Her mother thinks she has found the cure tied up currently on Lissianna's bed. Lissianna is taken aback that her thirtieth birthday present is Dr. Greg Hewitt, who demands his freedom. Instead to everyone's shock, Lissianna desires her doctor who reciprocates her feelings. The Argeneau brood don't know whether it is his the strength of his will and mind or simply love, but the vampires cannot expunge his memory of them, especially Lissianna.

The latest biting vampire romance starts a bit slow as Lissianna explains in detail the species vampire to Greg, but once the tale moves past that to the growing relationship between the psychologist and the neck biter the plot accelerates. Lissianna is an interesting person struggling with her phobia that makes her dine the old fashion way rather than the "normal" sack lunch take out from the blood bank. Greg is her ideal other half as he so not mind A QUICK LOVE BITE. Lynsay Sands' latest paranormal romance is amusing once the plot turns to eating in.

5.0 out of 5 stars The whole series..., November 16, 2005
If you're looking for a Para-romance/comedy with a great family then you'll enjoy this series: ("A Quick Bite" (read them in this order), "Love Bites", "Single White Vampire", & "Tall, Dark and Hungry"). I did have to remind myself to stop comparing these stories to the more maudlin Vamp books by authors like Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon whom have both created such awesome worlds, and whose books are full of action and suspense. When I read a "Vampire" book I'm used to expecting magic and suspense, shape shifting, "Evil" bad guys, etc. But while these stories are just about relationship development, it's a refreshing change. I just love this family! Yes, there was a comical vampire hunter in Love Bites but as far as vampirism; she takes a more comical route, which is fun and different. They preferred bagged blood as opposed to biting (which they considered "out of fashion" unless it was an emergency), which for me did seem to take a bit of the intimacy out of it. But it works, because there's just enough "nibbling" between just the right people. These heroes's were also not very "Alpha" men, as some would expect from this type of book. Greg was a psychologist, Etienne was a video game inventor, Lucern was an author, and Bastien was a businessman. There were only three instances where Greg, Etienne and then Lucern were put in "dangerous" positions where they encountered a vampire hunter (which was more comical than anything else). In "Tall, Dark and Hungry" there was absolutely nothing. But, like I said, these stories are not to be missed, all of the characters were great, and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming secondary characters stories, hopefully Thomas will be next, he's such a "Charmer!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucern's little sister finally gets her turn!, August 25, 2005
Lynsay is back with another long-awaited Argeneau tale, and new sexy updated cover instead of the cartoon ones. New Publisher, the vamps are no longer with Dorchester. They're now put out by Avon (though Dorchester will continue to do her Historicals). Originally, this was the very first Argeneau tale in the series, not Single White Vampire (Lucern's tale). So it's great to finally get Lucern's little sister's story. As followers of the series know, the Argeneau vamps are the modern day, intelligent sort, who know feasting in the wild can get "blood" with all sorts of problems. In order to skip all this rather mundane ugliness, they've invested in blood banks that see them supplied with a full range of "flavors" and blood that is safe! Only, Lissianna really has trouble with this popping her fangs into a blood bag and having a quick munchie.

So Mama Argeneau sets out to give Lissianna the perfect present - one sexy male tied up and waiting. Well, Lissianna wants Mr. Right, not just Mr. Available. She's tired of her vamp immortal life, and would like someone to share it with. Lissianna has other problems, such as her fainting at the sight of blood, an annoying trait for a vampire. For a Birthday gift, Mama has gone out and fetched Dr. Gregory Hewitt, used mind control to get him to tuck himself up in the trunk of her car, and now has him tied up nekkid on Lissianna's bed. Wouldst that all mums were so obliging on birthdays!

Greg was planning a much-needed vacation. The last he recalls is leaving the office and planning on getting away. Instead, he wakes up in a stranger's bedroom. Well, he's male - this cannot be all bad. Okay, she's a vampire romance may be a bit difficult to work out, but to quote Joey Brown in Some Like it Home, "nobody's perfect."

A great tale which you can sink your fangs into! Expect Vincent Argeneau sometime after the first of the year. Keep 'em coming, Lynsay!

For thos paying attention - the series has NEVER been "in order"
Single White Vampire was Lucern's tale where wrote about his siblings' lovelifes - their real lovelife and romance editors thought they were vampire romances. So the takes of his brothers and sisters come AFTER his tale meaning they had already happened before Lucern happened. Since there are four more currently planned over the next two years waiting to read them in order is plain silly.

They are to be read and enjoyed. Cannot do better than that. A writer has little control of these things. Originally this was to the the first in the series. The publisher decided otherwise. Stop getting bent out of shape over it and just have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Man's View, October 29, 2005
By
Classic Gibbon (Over the Rainbow) - See all my reviews
I've read all of Lynsay Sands' vampire books, they all make for a funny and enjoyable read and this one is no exception. As a writer Miss Sands has a deft touch and I'm never sure whether her tongue-in-cheek attitude isn't actually parodying the genre in which she writes. Whatever the motive behind her humour the books never fail to put a smile on my face.

With regard to a previous reviewer's complaint that the book is out of sequence with the others in the series I can only say that this book stands up independently in it's plot and characters and that anyone who needs sequential episodes should stick to watching soaps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a Laugh, December 21, 2008

This paranormal romance is presented as a comedy, a much lighter take on 'the vampire genre' then many you will find. This alone makes it stand out from the crowd, but despite the unique angle, it is not extraordinary.

The Plot:

Lissianna is a vampire who happens to be afflicted with hemophobia (she faints at the sight of blood). Greg is a psychologist who specializes in phobias. Lissianna's mother kidnaps Greg and presents him to Lissianna as a birthday present in hopes that he will cure her phobia. She, however, mistakes him for a snack--and also finds herself desperately attracted to him. The feeling is evidently mutual, thus romance ensues.

The Best Thing About This Book:

There really are some laugh-out-loud moments, especially in the beginning. It's situational comedy at its best.

There are also some rather sweet moments between Greg and Lissianna. Sands does a fair job at establishing their feelings for one another, even in the midst of all the silliness.

Why it Lost Two Stars:

Despite the fact that this book is entertaining at times, overall it falls into the category of average. The world that Sands presents is not very unique when compared to anything else in the paranormal or fantasy genres. As such, experienced readers may find it predictable and boring.

The characters are too many, and not all that well developed. We are presented with an entire cast of cousins, far to many to keep track of, and we really aren't told much about them to make them memorable. Even the main characters are undeveloped and somewhat unbelievable. I had particular trouble with Greg. I simply could not understand what motivated him throughout the story to stay with Lissianna, what kept him from being angry with her family, or why in the end he fell in love with her (the emotion is made plain, but not the rationale).

There were moments in the plot, even those more serious moments, when I simply felt that the book was way to silly. The antics of the book's villain, a priest with a drive to kill vampires, were ridiculous and not particularly funny.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a light, fun read. I advise that it is not meant to be taken seriously, and will likely not appeal to many of the more jaded paranormal romance readers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculously stupid, February 2, 2008
I made the mistake of buying this book for its cover. It was interesting, unique, cute, and sexy. The book? Not so much so.

The vampires, who are really old enough to have a little bit more life experience, are all complete bimbos. The male lead was a useless bimbo himself, and I couldn't wait to see him run over by a truck. If characters you want to throttle aren't enough, the desperate rationalization of rape, kidnapping and brainwashing will turn you right off (If they don't remember, you've only really stolen time, and anyway they don't even miss it). If it weren't so ridiculous I might have been offended, but the writing and characterizations are so poor I could only be disappointed.

All in all, this may be the worst vampire novel I have ever read. Do not buy this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just not my type of book, February 4, 2009
Most of this book is spent explaining how vampire life is to a very complacent kidnapped man. I thought we might actually get to have some treatment occur. I thought it would take longer for a man that has been kidnapped to learn to trust his captors. I thought there would be a good plot with this book. I was wrong on all accounts. The characters are all annoying to me, the doctor fits into the family entirely too quickly and way too easily. It all seemed fake-unbelievable, and not in a good way. I just couldn't get into this book. It started out interestingly enough, the doctor is kidnapped, he learns about Lissianna's phobia. Then, 100 or so pages later he is still having conversations and going shopping with the family. Nothing interesting or important was happening at all. I can't read a book with no point or plot at all. Very disappointing.

I overall liked this story! O.K. maybe it was a little slow...for the first half, but boy did it pick up towards the end! Maybe Greg wasn't an "alpha" male, but gee, he sure was sweet! I really liked the way the author handled Greg's "turning", and it answered some of my questions as to how they were going to be together. Hopefully, the next in this series will be about Thomas! If you could forget the (gasp) "spiderman" pajamas, he seemed to have one heck of a sense of humor, and seemed quite sexy, also! He needs to have his own story!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Liss and Gregs Story, December 19, 2005
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
A Quick Bite by Lynsay Sands fits right in with the other wickedly delightful tales of the Argeneau family.

Lissianna Argeneau finds a hot and sexy man tied to her bed. At first she thinks he is a light snack for her but he is really there as a present from her mom. Seems her mom thinks he can treat her phobia. Poor Liss faints at the sight of blood, which is a problem for a Vampire.

Dr. Greg Hewitt is well known for treating phobias. He can't believe he went willingly into a car trunk and let himself be tied to a bed. He is more then intrigued by the beautiful woman who walks into the room. Greg is flabbergasted as he puts all the facts together and realizes Vampires are holding him.

Lissianna and Greg have an unconventional romance. Plus it seems that someone is after Liss. As Greg and Liss dig deeper into the strange happenings they find a love for all eternity.

A Quick Bite is treasure. The family connections are a treat to watch. It was great to go back see how Greg and Lissianna met and fell in love. I have enjoyed all Sands Vampires books. I hope that Thomas gets his story soon.

3.0 out of 5 stars If this book had been released first I never would have read the series, July 2, 2008
In my opinion the publishing out of order did the author a favor. If this book had been the first in the series I never would have read the series nevermind pick up the next book. Single white vampire was laugh
out funny! while in this book Mom's mischief in trying to get her daughter cured and admitting her love for her lifemate puts her in danger
thanks to the maniplutive misunderstandings. Such as tying Greg back up
on her bed once her uncle shows up unexpectedly. She almost dies after
being staked at her friends house because of lack of blood for the nanos
to use to feed while fixing the wound. And Greg is awfully forgiving for
someone who is controlled and forced back to a house where he is held prisoner and gift wrapped as a present, as well as constantly having his
mind read. What truly interested me is we finally got to hear some about
Jean Claude in facts instead of just hearing he controled her. True it
isn't flattering but is everything you done in your life flattering? Be honest now. All in all an ok book that moves the series along.
