$...! This is worth $100! Thumbs up!,

I've got over $500 invested in computer books and very very few of them are read top-to-bottom, start-to-finish. This is one of them. If you've ever beaten your head against the wall trying to decipher some of these 900 - 1500 page books, this book will restore your faith in a book's ability to transfer knowledge quickly and painlessly to your head. This is a basic book, but without it, you could waste months trying to figure out all of Access' neat features. It took me three days to go through and do this and I can confidently take on basic database tasks with Access now. I wish I had bought this book years ago! I agree with the other writers, that this is a good 'basic tutorial' and to do more advanced stuff, you'll need other materials, but at least you won't drown in useless info with this one! (and for $..., you can give it to a friend and help them along the database path.)

Great for Beginners,
This review is from: Quick Course in Microsoft Access 2000 (Paperback)
Quick Course in Mircosoft Access is an excellent book for individuals seeking to learn one of Microsoft's least intuitive applications. The book takes the reader step-by-step in tutorial fashion through all the key skills necessary to building simple databases.Other applications in the Office 2000 suite are very intuitive. It is easy to understand the basics of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and create simple documents, spreadsheets, and presentation. If you needed help, the help file and index are more than adequate. Access is not like the other Office applications in this sense. New users need to be walked through the basics of constructing a relational database. Normally, I try to experiment with a new application, and then buy one of the huge "Bibles" to augment my knowledge. Again, not so with Access. In order to effectively utilize Access, I found it necessary to get a book that would take me from ground zero to limited proficiency in a short period of time. If you are faced with the daunting task of using Access, this book will have you up and running in no time at all. Buy this book, run through the tutorials, and create your own database from scratch. Then, go out and buy one of the 1000 page "Bibles" so that you can teach yourself some of the more esoteric features and functions.

An Error Free Guide,

I used it for 12 different sections of a college course to introduce the students to Access. I found it to be accurate and found no flaws plus it was very reasonable in cost. I am anxiously waiting for the Access 2002 edition.

i just got this book today and im half way done with it, and i have to say it is straight and to the point. it doesnt elaborate too much, but gives you step by step directions on what does what. this is great for the ABSOLUTE beginner, because it gets your feet wet, without all the confusion. it is very short, only about 200 pages, but for the price and the lesson it is well worth it for the beginner.

For anyone who has used Access 2000, you know it is a very detailed program that can seem quite overwhelming to beginners. Quick Course in Microsoft Access 2000 is easy to use with numbered, step by step instructions. It covers everything from basic database functions to complex reporting and management. Screen shots are included and make excellent illustrations to follow along with on your own PC. There are also many useful tips that make Access easier to use. This review is from: Quick Course in Microsoft Access 2000 (Paperback)
If you have never used Access before, or if your experience with Access has been clicking on a reports icon for a database someone else created, this book is for you!Very simple step-by-step instructions take you on a brief orientation, and then you are immersed in building your first database. This book is very easy to understand, and a newcomer can get through the book in a couple of hours. This book will get you up and running, and then you may want to buy one of the 1000 page "Bibles" if you intend to refine your skills further.

Decent jump start,
By Mark B. Lasser (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Having never worked with relational databases, it is hard for me to compare this to other resources. I worked with the book for a few weeks and was able to create a few simple databases at work.Chapters that focused on the more relational aspects of the software were harder to assimilate in such condensed for. A few projects were the reader had to wrestle with the learned material would have been a nice addition.
