4.0 out of 5 stars A good book!
Quick Crochet Huge Hooks is a great book for both beginners and experienced crocheters looking for some new projects. It focuses on projects made with hooks 10.00 mm (US size N-13) through 20.00 mm (US size S), with most of the projects using 12.00 mm (US size O/P-15) and 15.00 mm (US size Q).

This review is from: Quick Crochet Huge Hooks (Paperback)
Quick Crochet Huge Hooks is a great book for both beginners and experienced crocheters looking for some new projects. It focuses on projects made with hooks 10.00 mm (US size N-13) through 20.00 mm (US size S), with most of the projects using 12.00 mm (US size O/P-15) and 15.00 mm (US size Q).

The first section, Huge-Hook Know-How, discusses huge hooks, the yarn to use with them, and how to crochet. There are step-by-step instructions for every crochet stitch used in the book, holding the yarn, increasing and decreasing, and reading the pattern. There are diagrams to aid visual learners, and detailed instructions on how to follow the patterns in the book.

The last section, Useful Things to Know, tells how to make tassels, how to line the projects, and where to find the yarn that is used in the book. It also includes a reference guide for crochet abbreviations and converts American names and sizes to their UK equivalents.

The meat of the book is naturally the middle section--the projects. It includes full-color pictures of all the projects and little tips that apply specifically to a given project. The projects range from easy to hard and big to small. Crocheters of every ability should be able to find something to do in this book, be it a scarf, a bag, a rug, a pillow, or a throw.

One thing that I really liked was the variety of yarn used. It ranges from stuff that can be found easily in any store to two project made entirely of rag strips--and it tells you the best way to make those. I also liked all the ideas for personalizing the different projects.

My personal favorite is the striped throw. I love blankets and I'm looking forward to making that one.

Armchair Interviews says: The book is logically divided into three sections, enabling experienced crocheters to jump right into the projects and beginners to learn what they need to know.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book for your crochet collection, July 1, 2005
This review is from: Quick Crochet Huge Hooks (Paperback)
When it comes to crochet, I am all about instant gratification, so I was really anticipating the release of this book. It arrived yesterday, and it's not bad at all. I do wish there were more "full view" photos of the completed projects - a lot of them are very "arty" shots, extreme closeups, weird angles, etc., that only show a bit of the actual piece. Sally Harding uses non-yarn materials for some of the projects, like string, twine, fabric strips, etc., that readers will find very interesting to experiment with, and she does inspire creativity with materials. There is also a very good explanation of the basic crochet stitches and techniques for those just starting out. I like working with thick and textured yarns and I look forward to giving some of the afghans in this book a try (when the weather gets cooler). Quick Crochet is not exactly what I expected but I do think it has at least a couple of projects for anyone, and it is a good addition to my crochet book collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars for the busy and the inpatient, May 22, 2005

M's Harding writes a book that is great for beginner crocheters as well as those of us who are in a bit of a hurry. The projects are easy made and the instructions are quite clear. If you need to whip up a baby afghan for that baby shower you were just invited to that just happens to be this weekend or perhaps donate something for the school's fair, this is a very helpful book.

So if you just need to crochet something fast and easy, this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun book for all crocheters, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Quick Crochet Huge Hooks (Paperback)
Having recently taught myself how to crochet (and somehow mastering it very quickly) I was looking for something fresh to pique my interest again. This book did the trick! The day I got it in the mail I sat down, cut up some fabric, and by the next afternoon I had finished my first rug!!! I think it's just the thing to get your creative juices flowing if you seem to be in a crochet funk, and most of the projects are easy enough for a beginner who just wants to make something that doesn't take all week!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun book, December 17, 2007
This review is from: Quick Crochet Huge Hooks (Paperback)
I am a beginner so I found this book to be lots of fun. I've worked with huge knitting needles before and thought it would be fun to crochet with the huge hooks too. The pictures were helpful and the color contrast made them easy to understand. A good beginner book.

1.0 out of 5 stars the preview makes me NOT want to buy this book, June 5, 2010
This review is from: Quick Crochet Huge Hooks (Paperback)
I have not (yet) bought this book, or seen it in a bookstore. I came across it here on Amazon and was interested enough to click on the "look inside!"

The preview that is available on Amazon is SO lacking, that it appears that the publishers are afraid to let customers see any of the pictures. At least, that's what I'm hoping. All the images look as if they were paintshopped out. If the images are in reality this bad, I'm sure I DON'T want to buy it.

If, however, the images in the book are worthwhile, it would be nice to let customers know this. One thing I look for in this type of book is the pictures... do they give enough detail, are they easy to understand, do the design ideas mesh with my own? It is absolutely impossible to tell from the preview of this book, so I will pass. The cover of this book is attractive. The color scheme of the project and title lead me to think that color might be an important facet of the book. But if I can't tell, I won't buy it.

Publishers, if you're following these reviews, please know that at least ONE customer actually uses them to decide if the book is worth buying (and my guess is, others do as well). Just like in a bookstore, when you look through a book, check it out to see if it's going to be useful for you, THAT's what the "look inside" preview does. You can use it to gain a customer or lose one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book!, October 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You all have no idea how hard it is to find a book like this at any craft store. There is none where I am. I ordered this and was thrilled when it came. So easy to understand how to make the rag rugs and love the pictures. If you are starting up this craft or know someone who is, this is THE BOOK to get. My mom saw this and is now starting to make them too! And it came so fast! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Get your hook on!, January 24, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quick Crochet Huge Hooks (Paperback)
Good book-- not only for beginners or teens, but those that are adventurous with materials other than yarn. The author has various bag projects that could easily be made with twine (think beach bags!). There is a lot of room for creativity I think, whether it be with pattern stitches or embellishments. Wished she had included some hat patterns. Plenty of how-tos included. I am going to pick up her sister book, "Fast Knits Fat Needles," next. Please note that this review is based on my perusing the just received purchase, I haven't done any projects--yet. Hopefully will be back to showcase a project.

Amazon please fix the preview for these two selections. You are unable to see any projects and are doing a disservice to the author, as well as potential customers.

I wish I had looked at this book in a store. I expected more patterns or at least ideas. There isn't that much to this book, and what there is wasn't of much interest to me.
