5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent variety.
I rated this one five stars based on what I look for in diabetic/low-carb cookbooks (1) has to have complete nutritional information (I don't like just "exchanges" or just a carbohydrate range or just sugarfree...); (2) recipes I will make (a favorite is the Guiltless Brownies with cocoa and bananas) that my family won't bypass or that require too many shopping...

1.0 out of 5 stars Irresponsible - Very High Carbohydrate Menus that could kill instead of help a Diabetic Person!
I bought this book based on the writer - supposedly reliable based on her credentials. Once my mother (Diabetic) and I dug into the detail, we were VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RECIPES (many of them are very high in Carbohydrates, using honey, raisins, and sugar, versus other much better options with lower glycemic indexes or even Splenda, equal, or Stevia).

Realistic menus.

I would even go as far as calling the author irresponsible, because if an older or elderly Diabetic individual relies on the book (face value), he would actually be doing himself a disfavor & his sugar would skyrocket with several of the recipes.

Some of the menus are pathetic and a carbohydrate bomb! For example, on one meal the author suggests having:

Cereal

Bread

Fruit

(3 Carbohydrates) ALL IN ONE MEAL!!!!!

I will not even go into the desserts section, which is ridiculously sweet!

Unless the Diabetic person is willing and able to ONLY eat three tablespoons of some of the meals, he or she would be putting himself at risk of increasing his blood sugar to an extreme and dangerous level.

3.0 out of 5 stars How sweet it isn't., April 27, 2000

This book was full of helpful recipes for my aunt who was recently diagnosed with diabetes. She has always been a huge fan of pasta and chicken so this book helped her out showing her how she can have the food she wants. Having diabetes strips your freedom to eat what you want and cook books like this give diabetics a choice of recipes rather than a bag of rabbit food.

Love some of the recipes - haven't tried them all.. yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy recipes my hubby will eat with no fake frankenfoods, February 18, 2009
This review is from: Quick & Easy Diabetic Menus (Paperback)
I haven't had a flop here yet. Best of all, there are recipes for my meat loving husband. And, some for veggie-loving me. I hate book filled with artificial foods. If I can't pronounce it I don't want to eat it. Plus, the 30 day menus give me an idea of how to incorporate all kinds of foods. A winner. The best of her books - IMHO
