I never write reviews for cookbooks, but after making many recipes from this book, I am compelled to share the good news! This is a great book for every day- not just holidays. Her macaroni and cheese is ridiculously good and without a flake of nutritional yeast. It reminded me of Stouffer's in consistency and was delicious. I was really shocked that potatoes and carrots could come so close to real mac and cheese. My vegan toddler loved it (mac and cheese is the only food she misses from her (brief) omnivore days.) I was planning on freezing some for easy meals for my daughter when she's with Grandma, but we ended up eating it all in 48 hours! I can easily see me making this dish for omnivore friends- it doesn't have that weird "health food" taste that some mac and cheeses do.

I made the Green Bean Casserole for Thanksgiving, and I don't think anyone at the table knew it was vegan. The Southern Sweet Cornbread is now my husband's favorite recipe I make, and I loved the meatballs in the Kwanzaa section. My husband eats meat, but has asked me to make the Shepherd's Pie again. It was really easy and quite good. The Crispy Baked Tofu was great and very easy. My daughter and I will be making the Gingerbread Cookies soon.

I am super excited about having Christmas at my house this year and using the recipes from this book. I'm especially excited about the Agave-Glazed Acorn Squash. So far, everything I've made has been true to the "quick and easy" in the title. As a new vegan, I was afraid of ingredients like TVP (textured vegetable protein) or homemade seitan, but I'm positive I can do them both now! Thanks, Alicia!

I love this book and the previous book, Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food: 65 Everyday Meal Ideas for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with Over 150 Great-tasting, Down-home Recipes, written by Alicia C. Simpson. I am a fan of her work. There's a holiday or celebration in this book for the well-known, popular celebrations in this country. Even if you don't celebrate these days, the recipes are still great for everyday get-togethers with family, friends, Sunday dinner, etc. The recipes allow for substitutions, and I love the cornbread recipe. This is the only recipe I have tried since purchasing her book, but as with the previous recipes in her other book, I know that these will be great! I am from the south and I love the southern recipes that I grew up cooking and enjoy trying the others that are new to me.

One of my New Years resolution's was/is to learn how to cook more food at HOME. I do not like to eat out that much, and really that is all I was really doing. I do not like not knowing where my food comes, or who has been handling my food. I worked in the food industry, and I know what goes on behind closed doors. Anyway, I did a LOT of research on which books to buy. I have the habit of buying books before really looking in depth at what they have to offer. I have other books that I thought were ok, however they called for ingredients that I had never even heard of. Let me tell you...this book is NOTHING like that. It gives me a taste of what food was like BEFORE I became a vegan. I dont miss meat, cheese, or eggs. But, this book makes it so much easier. And it is soooo EASY. So easy! This is a great book! definitely a good buy.

Critique of my first recipe I cooked from this book. I cooked the Beer Batterd Green Beans yesterday when I got the cookbook. They turned out amazing! I added a few additions to my batter because of my love for spice, but I really didnt have to. I also washed my beans first even though they were already washed, and this caused to breading to slide off. If you are having this problem make sure the beans are dry first. Or, if you are finding that the breading is still coming off...dip them in a dry flour mixture first. This is what I ultimately did. I love to experiment in the kitchen...one of my favorite things to do! They were soooo good once I got it down! I will definitely make those again!!

This book has everything from loaded potato skins and mac and cheese to king's cake and stout beer cupcakes with whisky cream cheese frosting.
I was absolutely amazed by the variety of dishes in this book, and how simple and amazing they are, most of them calling for whole, natural ingredients with the processed ingredients (like vegan cream cheese) showing up in a few.
Absolutely worth the price.

The great thing about this book is that you can celebrate any day with these delicious recipes. They are divided up into menus which is great too so you know how to make a themed meal for a special occasion but there is definitely now reason to leave them just for those days. I am a fan of Alicia's blog and other book so it was definitely on my list to pick this one up and make it a part of my library. I love that each menu has choices of apps, mains, sides and desserts so you can mix and match too. I have tried a few from the book and all have come out perfectly and tasty! The crispy baked tofu and hummingbird cupcakes are definitely keepers and will be eaten in our house many times other than Easter! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!
