Great Clamp, Good Size (You Decide),
By D "sub" (Metro Detroit, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quick-Grip 524QC Bar Clamp/Spreader (Tools & Home Improvement)
This clamp uses the ingenius trigger grip design for unbelievable ease of use. This makes the clamp unbelievably easy to tighten using one hand. A few warnings about this particular product, however: (1) Be sure the size is correct. I think the 24" size is probably a bit too big for most projects. I think the 18" size is the best all-around size. Personal preference and common usage really should make this decision for you. (2) The plastic construction makes the clamps best for holding items "approximately" in place. If you need total clamping for cutting precision, look elsewhere. All in all, a good product if it is the right size, and used for the right purpose. A good collection would probably include either this or the 18" size, the 36" size and the smallest size. If building such a collection, I would start with this or the 18" size.

Handy but could grip more firmly,
This review is from: Quick-Grip 524QC Bar Clamp/Spreader (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've used two of these clamps for about a year and do like the quick release. Some people have commented that it can pinch your fingers. Perhaps that is the case with the shorter models?
The grip is not strong enough for some board joining exercises, e.g. doweling butt joints. I'm not sure whether it is because of the soft yellow grips or something to do with the hand pull. Whatever the case, sometimes you have to wrap the hand pull with duct tape around the fixed blue stem in order to acheive enough clamping force. I have to say that after purchasing the Jorgensen clamps I am happier with those although the quick release is not as easy to pull.

The 24in quick grip clamps worked as described with no problems. The release levers worked smoothly and the clamps held the items clamped with no slipage. I would recommend these clamps to others with no hesitation. I am very happy with this purchase.

Works great and can be used when you only have one free hand. I recommend buying more of these than you think you need, as they're very handy to have around, and you always need more clamps than you think you do.

I am just starting out building small furniture (magazine rack, shoe rack, kids' play table, etc.) and this works as advertised. If I need something held togther this does the job and only takes one hand to operate.

It works. What more is there to say. It's a clamp. You squeeze it and it clamps down on what you have between the pads.

Best clamp you can buy when doing furniture and setting countertops! Price is great and very easy to transfer from job to job. Highly recommend you have a few of each size.

These clamps/spreaders are a must have. You'll need to get a variety of sizes and a couple of each. Clamps are not just for cabinet makers. You'll find a hundred uses for these on the jobsite, espicially if you work alone. Buy a few and put them in your truck.

Great clamps for two reasons. 1, you only need one hand. 2, you don't need to put blocks to prevent mares and dents.

The Clamps not bad but the companysure is,
This review is from: Quick-Grip 524QC Bar Clamp/Spreader (Tools & Home Improvement)
these 1 handed clamps are great in the shop, a real must have. They don't have the gripping or holding power as the screw types but for most jobs they work great. Most of the time I position the pieces together with one hand holding the work and the other putting the quick clamp on to hold it secure enough to install the heavy duty clamps if need be. There are several compaines who sell 1 handed clamps, Irwin is just one of them. Irwin ,however, will not get any more of my money as they are one of the "sneeky" compaines. I saw the 20/20 show about compaines who use sneeky tacticts and fine print to "weed out" their rebate forms. They try to deter as many as possible from reciving their advertised sales/rebates so they can make more profit. Well Irwin is one of those companies.
My suggestion is yes purchase several of these clamps just don't buy them from Irwin. |
