This review is from: Quick Guide to the Four Temperaments for Peak Performance: How to Unlock Your Talents to Excel At Work (Paperback)
As a college instructor I've found Scott's workbook very helpful to advise students who are near graduation or -- just as often -- students who thought they knew what they wanted to do and then discovered their "dream career" needs major rethinking. The book is organized in three parts. Part 1 describes four elements of peak performance including: proactive self-leadership, workplace culture fit, work roles fit and what he calls vision of performance excellence. Part 2 describes four temperaments: four sets of "core" needs and values. These strike me as a great compass to completing part 3 of the workbook, where you bring everything together to develop your action plan. The skills, talents and values invenstories at the back are useful too to step "outside the box." Scott writes in an easy-to-follow first-person voice and provides stories along the way to connect the material to your life. What I really appreciate about this workbook is that it's not a test like the Strong Interest Inventory that directs you to a list of careers. When I took the SII and looked up my sugggested careers, the category I fell into was empty! Scott's book puts the work and joy of rediscovering your "peek performance" path back into the hands of the person most affected and responsible, you.
