5.0 out of 5 stars An enlightened approach to type and career development, March 8, 2004
This review is from: Quick Guide to the 16 Personality Types and Career Mastery: Living with Purpose and Working Effectively (Paperback)
Super book - a lot packed in a little space. Motivational, informative, and enlightening. As a coach and consultant, I've read many books on personality type and on using type in careers. This one is one of the best and a fine guide to personal career exploration and management and an excellent companion to career coaching for those who know or use personality type. It's not intended to be a basic introduction to personality type - so it's good for you or your clients to have gotten that introduction through the many fine resources available.

This book doesn't fall into the common (and misguided) practice of many other books on the market in suggesting careers based on type preferences. That means it doesn't offer quick and easy answers. Instead it gives steps and exercises for uncovering the truly important information needed for making career choices (purpose, interests and so on), then goes on to show how personality type affects the behaviors needed to realize your career dream. Here's a representative quote, "Use type to wake up to HOW to get what you want in a career, not WHICH career to choose."

Clearly this book is about developing awareness and about personal awakening - while supporting you in finding and managing your career. It's not just about career mastery, but about life mastery. Again, the book doesn't give easy answers - but it prompts you to ask some good questions. Read it and you'll see what I mean.

For me simply finding out what MBTI profile I was became the starting point of understanding what I am best suited to. Then this book provided me more insight and detail into what I was in denial of for years. That is it helped me seek clarity and enabled me to reconnect to my purpose. I am now planning the next stage of my life based on the guidance and information extracted from this book. An easy read for those seeking answers to their future.
