A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

If you’re like me, you want your kids to eat healthy food at school and also develop good eating habits for life.

A nutritious school lunch can improve a child’s ability to pay attention, stay focused, learn, and have a good day at school. The trouble is, who has the time, energy or money to make lunches every day? Both my husband and I work, and the last thing either of us wants to do at the end of a long day is make lunches for our three kids. It’s time consuming, expensive, and a pain in the butt!

I love my Kindle and figured I could buy a book to help the situation, but I couldn’t find a book that brought together the three things I needed most: information on how to save time and money and ideas for making healthy lunches. So I wrote this book.

My husband and I started experimenting not just with what healthy foods our kids would eat, but how to pack lunches they actually would enjoy. I’m not a nutritionist (although I consulted with several in writing this book). I’m just a mom who took the time to research what other parents were doing (love the internet!) and tried out different foods and strategies on my own three kids.

As a healthy eater, at times I have struggled simply to get my kids to eat what I eat. After a lot of testing, research and interviews, not to mention the sneers from my kids, their haranguing and complaints, my pleading and begging, their refusing, and our family’s ongoing experimentation on my own laboratory subjects, we eventually figured out what works. It’s all here: how to make cheap, quick, and healthy lunches that our kids actually eat.

What’s more, I’ve come to see all of this work as an opportunity to teach three picky eaters to think about what they eat, understand why they need to make healthy choices, and sometimes even eat good food without complaining.

I hope this book is as helpful to you. It’s been fun to write. Please buy it! And as you read it, keep in mind the thought that drove me during the past ten years of making school lunches: that if you don’t teach your children to make healthy choices, no one will.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick school lunches February 15, 2013

Will use several ideas. However, several ideas may require access and permission to use a microwave. LiKE the web-sites provided and explanations of why healthy lunches are better "fuel" for kids.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Really Recipes September 2, 2012

This book is more of a pep talk/lecture about providing your kids with healthy options and home prepared food. Most people don't have to be told that they could pack a boiled egg for lunch. It would have been more helpful to have real recipes and whole meal plans. I guess if you're putting one little, nervous toe in the water of lunch box world, this isn't a bad place to start but it's otherwise not very useful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea, but.... August 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is about a great topic and has lots of tips. However none of it was new information. It was all common sense! I was hoping to come away learning something but unfortunately I didn't. Good concept that never panned out to any fruitful information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the kids! March 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm a single father, so I can tell you from experience that this book is fantastic if you have kids. It has a lot of great recipes that she not only loves, but that are healthy too. Thats the part that I love about this book. "Healthy" There very quick to prepare, you don't have to be that handy around the kitchen to make them, and the cost of them is not expensive at all; if you're on a budget. The food they serve in school's nowadays aren't exactly healthy or to tasty. So this book does really come in handy for health reasons so your kid does not have to eat that terrible tasting food. When they can have a Delicious healthy lunch.
