From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6–This attractively designed title features clear, colorful illustrations and an easy-to-follow text. It introduces everything beginners need to know about yarn, knitting needles, point protectors or stoppers, casting on, various stitches, increasing, decreasing, casting off, and fixing mistakes. Tips are given to further enhance the directions and possibilities. The 10 projects are of varying degrees of difficulty, and include a scarf, hats, a backpack, wallet, pillow, foot mat, slippers, and a sweater. A color photo of a child model wearing the finished item, a list of supplies, and step-by-step instructions accompany each entry. Metric and standard measurements are given.

Kids interested in knitting will find everything they are looking for here. The illustrations are large and clear, and the instructions for knit and purl stitches are easy to understand. But, most of all, the projects are items kids might actually like to have when they are finished--among them, a fuzzy scarf made from novelty yarn, a drawstring backpack, a tiny wallet, even a simple sweater. Some of the instructions offer a way to extend the project through decoration, fringing, etc. In the case of the sweater pattern, the book goes further than most others for the age group by explaining how to finish a garment. A list of sources and supplies would have been helpful, but otherwise, this entry in the Kids Can Do It series is a solid package.
