Editorial Reviews

Review

"The definitions are simple, clear, and concise. The book finds its originality in the inclusion in its glossary of occupational therapy evaluation tools, approaches, and frequently used materials as well as the more conventional medical terms."

— Edith Lamay, Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd gotten this day 1 of OT school!, August 23, 2006

This review is from: Quick Reference Dictionary for Occupational Therapy (Paperback)
This book has it all at your fingertips! An excellent dictionary for our profession and quick charts for maintaining competence in various areas of practice. It would have been especially useful at the start of my OT education as a reference/study guide, but is certainly useful to any practioner. It includes AOTA documents (Code of Ethics, etc.), as well as necessary and thoughtful interview/intervention questions in Spanish, Portugese, French, and German for building rapport and communicating with clients of various ethnicities. You won't regret getting this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Quick Reference Review, December 1, 1999
By A Customer
As an OT student I thought this book would be helpful in tutorial sessions and as a quick lookup for unknown subjects. I haven't found it to be very useful yet and have opened it maybe 3 times in 5 months. I would recommend K.Reed's Quick Reference to OT. That book is more comprehensive and still defines the words as well as explains the problem in detail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent dictionary with very useful appendices, September 10, 2009

As a returning therapist who's been out of the field for a while, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. As the title implies, it is a DICTIONARY, and as such, defines terms. (I say this because the other reviewers were obviously looking for a different type of book, such as the equally excellent, Quick Reference to Occupational Therapy by Reed. When I was fresh out of OT school, I found that book very handy, and its appendices are great, too.) However, since I now need a dictionary tailored for OTs, this book is perfect for my purposes. And the appendices are extremely helpful.

So, if you took a long break from OT, are changing practice areas, or have noticed that terminology has changed since you graduated school, get this book. It will make reading charts and deciphering jargon at the clinic much easier. You might also want to get the Quick Reference to Occupational Therapy book by Reed, but note that it doesn't provide definitions, as it is not a dictionary.
