5.0 out of 5 stars John Jacobs - a world class instructor, November 24, 2011

This review is from: Quick Cures for Weekend Golfers (Hardcover)
If you have any desire to learn how to diagnose your golf swing, this is the book you want to have near by for a reference. John Jacobs is one of the world's best golf teachers and this book clearly shows his knowledge, skill and talent. I am not aware of any other book that compares to this one.

Each golf swing fault is explained by a diagnosis, an explanation and a correction. Illustrations are provided to clarify the lesson. A golf lesson doesn't get much better than this. The only way to improve upon this is to take a private golf lesson with a teaching pro.

For those of you who don't know what a good private golf lesson entails I will describe it to you. A good private golf lesson starts out with the student warming up by hitting a few golf balls on the practice tee. As you do this, the teaching pro is watching and analyzing your swing. The pro decides which of your golf swing faults requires immediate attention. The teacher will then explain to you what fault needs your attention and will probably try to have you feel the fault. Thereafter, the lesson moves onto the solution. An explanation of the solution is given and the remainder of the lesson is about teaching you or getting you to duplicate the solution. Once you demonstrate that you know what the solution is and can perform the solution during your golf swing, the lesson is finished. It is then up to you to practice daily until the solution becomes permanent. Usually, it takes seven to ten days of daily practise for the solution to begin to take hold.

John Jacobs' book simulates what I have described above as constituting a professional lesson.

I don't know if this book is out of print or not. If it is out of print, it is a real shame because this book definitely makes a valuable contribution to the golf literature.
