3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of info, but very basic
I like this book, it has a lot of info. But if you are pretty good at QB already, it won't help you much. I was hoping it would help me to learn about setting up my fixed assets and liablity accounts. The info was minimal and didn't help me much at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars QuickBooks 2006 The Missing Manual, April 10, 2006
This review is from: QuickBooks 2006: The Missing Manual (Paperback)
In the last couple of years, Intuit has added many new tools and features to QuickBooks to help small business owners run and manage their businesses more effectively. Many of these features are strong resource management tools that just a few years ago, mid-sized businesses only dreamed of. But many of the 2,000,000 QuickBooks users are, by their very nature, small business owners who understand their business better than they understand accounting in general. Intuit provides far better documentation for QuickBooks users than what most other software publishers provide, especially packages that cost less than $1,000. But Intuit often just provides a very matter of fact description of important features and reports. Therefore features that could be exceedingly helpful to the user are oftentimes overlooked or not used. Frequently the business owner doesn't see why or how the feature will benefit them in running their business.

"QuickBooks 2006 The Missing Manual", by Bonnie Bialifore, picks up where Intuit has left off in providing the whys of QuickBooks features. Her book provides the information with many real business scenarios. Now this gives the average QuickBooks user a bridge from just using the program for basic accounting functions to also using its many additional features and reports. And therefore, they have additional tools to easily manage their business with one program.

I would strongly recommend "QuickBooks 2006 The Missing Manual" to any QuickBooks user. Although technical in nature, it is easy to read and has many great ideas.

Quickbooks 2006 The Missing Manual lays out the setup and use of Quickbooks in a logical, easy-to-follow manner. Although I have used Quickbooks for a few years now, I learned so many tips to make my business financial life easier, not to mention things I should have been doing all along. I spend less time in Quickbooks now and get more accomplished. This is an excellent book, and reference resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid walk through on Quickbooks, March 8, 2006
This review is from: QuickBooks 2006: The Missing Manual (Paperback)
This is a solid book on Quickbooks. The examples are good. The writing is clear and direct. Screenshots are there, but not overused as in books from other vendors. And best of all there is practical advice on using the product in the large ecosystem of a person's personal finances. And that's really what the average Quickbooks user needs.

Very good book for those just starting out. It goes over the basics of setting up.

I've worked with QB for 7+ years and thought the book was about shortcuts and secrets and workarounds, so I was dissapointed in my choice. My part time assistant finds it invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the non-beancounter, August 27, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: QuickBooks 2006: The Missing Manual (Paperback)
This is an excellent book to help you through the tough spots of Quickbooks Pro 2006. Since I am not an Accountant but have used Quicken for many years I am a dedicated Intuit customer (wouldn't touch MS Money for anything). Quickbooks is an excellent product but the learning curve is extensive. However, between "QuickBooks 2006 (Missing Manual)" and "Tax Loopholes for eBay Sellers" by Diane Kennedy I am attacking and winning with Quickbooks

5.0 out of 5 stars Quickbooks doesn't NEED its own manual..use this one!, September 24, 2007
This review is from: QuickBooks 2006: The Missing Manual (Paperback)
I am not a professional reviewer, but I needed to comment on the value of this book. I just started my own business and am lost in software land. I heard Quickbooks was the way to go, so, I followed suit and purchased it. Upon recommendation, I took part in the "online tutorials". It helped me learn a few things. "What next?", I inquired. "Use the help menu", was the catty reply. Forget that...I went searching for and found this book. Immediately, I found what I was looking for..Explainations! Examples! Education! Horray! Thank God I found the Missing Manual...

This review is from: QuickBooks 2006: The Missing Manual (Paperback)
I haven't read the book from cover to cover, but instead by using the index and table of contents to find what I am looking for. The book is well laid out and does a very good job of covering the key components of the QuickBooks system.

It's a little more comprehensive that many other books, but that is what I wanted so its a good choice.
