There have been many improvements to QuickBooks over the years, but the program's documentation is not one of them. Luckily, QuickBooks 2008: The Missing Manual picks up where QuickBook's help resources leave off. With this book, you don't just learn how to use the software, you learn why and when to use specific features. And you get basic accounting advice so that it all makes sense to you along the way. With its Simple Start, Basic, Pro, Premier, and industry-specific Enterprise editions, QuickBooks can handle many of the financial tasks companies face, but the price you pay is an overabundance of features. With this book, you get advice on which features you need to use to get your work done efficiently, along with step-by-step instructions on how to use them. QuickBooks 2008: The Missing Manual helps you:
  • Get more out of QuickBooks whether you're a beginner or an old pro
  • Learn how QuickBooks can help you boost sales, control spending, and save on taxes
  • Set up and manage your files to fit your company's specific needs
  • Use QuickBooks reports to evaluate every aspect of your enterprise
  • Follow the money all the way from customer invoices to year-end tasks
  • Discover new tips and tricks on the best timesaving options for your business
  • Build budgets and plan for the future to make your business more successful
  • And a lot more
This book is designed to accommodate readers at every technical level. If you're a first-time QuickBooks user, special boxes with the title "Up To Speed" provide the introductory information you need to understand the topic at hand. For advanced users, there are similar boxes called "Power Users' Clinic" that offer more technical tips, tricks, and shortcuts forthe experienced QuickBooks fan. For a topic as complicated as accounting software, why trust anything else?

More About the Author

Bonnie Biafore has always been a zealous organizer, whether setting up software demos, cooking gourmet meals, or scheduling a vacation to test the waters of spontaneity. Ironically, fate, not planning, turned this obsession into a career as a project manager. When she isn't managing projects for clients, Bonnie writes about project management, personal finance, investing, and technology. As an engineer, she's fascinated by how things work and how to make things work better. She has a knack for mincing dry subjects like accounting and finance into easy to understand morsels and then spices them to perfection with her warped sense of humor.

Bonnie is the author of QuickBooks 2012: The Missing Manual, Personal Investing: The Missing Manual, Project 2010: The Missing Manual, Successful Project Management, Your Project Management Coach, the Better Investing Stock Selection Handbook, Online Investing Hacks, and many other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars FOLLOW THE MONEY WITH QUICKBOOKS!!, January 18, 2008
This review is from: QuickBooks 2008: The Missing Manual (Paperback)
Do you run a business, track company finances to keep your business running smoothly and generate reports that are required by the IRS, SEC and anyone else you have to answer to? If you do, then this book is for you. Author Bonnie Biafore, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that helps you perform the basic financial tasks, track your financial situation, and manage your business to make it even better.

Biafore, begins by covering everything you have to do to set up QuickBooks, based on your organization's needs. Next, she helps you follow the money from the moment you rack up time and expenses for your customers and add charges to a customer's invoice to the tasks you have to perform at the end of the year to satisfy the IRS and other interested parties. The author also delves into the features that help you make your business a success--or even more successful than it was before. Finally, the author helps you take your copy of QuickBooks to the next level by saving time and avoiding errors by downloading transactions electronically.

This most excellent book was designed to accommodate readers at every technical level. In other words, in this book, you'll find step-by-step instructions for using every QuickBooks Pro feature, including those you might not have quite understood, let alone mastered, like: progress invoicing, making general journal entries, customizing forms, writing off losses, and so on.
