Powerful, but...,

This review is from: QuickBooks Pro 2009 With Enhanced Payroll Up To 3 Employees 2009 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
QB Pro is an incredibly powerful tool for handling most small business bookkeeping functions. It delivers on its promise in that regard. I have two complaints, neither of which is enough to keep my from purchasing the program, but both of which are enough to significantly detract from my satisfaction -- one star deducted for each problem.
First off, the program -- and the company -- are relentlessly trying to sell you more products. Starting with installation -- to register the program you have to call the company and talk to a representative who then tries to sell you a number of add on products. And registration is not optional. Then within the program you will find many more buying "opportunities" -- from printer checks to business cards to tax forms to service add-ons. If you click on one of these links, you will discover products that cost a lot more than the same things ordered through Amazon. My second complaint is just an ease of use issue. This isn't a fatal flaw -- many aspects of the program are pretty basic and straightforward and the help function is robust and constantly available (although phone support is one of the aforementioned extras that you will have to pay for). But many of the menu hierarchies are a bit obtuse. I'm experienced both with small business terminology and computer application use, but I still ended up searching around for even simple functions like entering a credit card purchase. All of this could be fixed with a single, optional wizard for entering transactions. Overall QB does what it needs to. But it could do it in a happier way.

Much improved over QB2004,

I upgraded to QB2009 from QB2004 and I LOVE it. It has a great interface to see your client information including outstanding balances, invoices, and payments. And the shortcut to issuing refunds for overpayments right from the payment entry screen is GREAT. It was a real struggle in the 2004 version. I haven't used the Payroll product yet, but so far I am VERY HAPPY with my upgrade.

I bought this package to run my wifes business, and it is loaded with everything you'll need. Do youself a favor and buy the three best rated books to go along with it. QuickBooks support sucks, and all they want to do is sell you a support contract. The books saved us $$$, and answered all our questions.

I find Quick-books to be a great product that helps manage my business. However, I detest the continual product upgrades every three years and the extra to get payroll every single year. Still it is cheaper than hiring a bookkeeper or accountant.

Once I get all of our information into the program, life will be much easier. Have had to hire outside help to get all the correct data input. The tutorials are helpful, but calling in for help takes awhile and was not very helpful. When you call for help, you get 20 minutes of sales pitches before getting any help. The program itself is a valuble tool for any business and as always, Amazon has the greatest prices.

It's pretty easy but some step by step instructions would be nice. I bought the quickbooks for dummies to help with it and it's alot of information for a newbie. But I don't have anything really bad to say about it.
