Yes its QuickBooks & it does all of the things its supposed to do. Plus there are enhancements since the 2007 version we had been running. It was an easy upgrade & all the previous entries made the transition safely. Whats misleading is; the chart which shows the differences between the various versions of QuickBooks states you can have upto 5 users in Premier. Previously we used this aspect sparingly, with 1 other user doing the accounting, and 1 other user looking at various perticular aspects of a job. With the enhancements in the new version we wanted to take advantage of, we were wanting 2 users to have it available to them at any given time for estimating. What we found out upon installation is that you can have 5 users, BUT for each additional user, you will need another license. Each license is the cost of a full version of Premier, no discount applies here. To buy 2 licenses @$320 each just for estimating, we're not sure its worth it.
At this point we're evaluating whether this is the product that will fit us in another couple of years, or if we should cut our losses & go with a more robust accounting package that will accomodate multi-users.
We had 3 knowledgeable people look over the same information,and reached the same conclusion. Had it been stated more clearly, or if they came straight out & said it will cost $900 to $1000 to set this up for 3 users, we wouldn't feel like we had been taken for a ride. I'm sure they have some legal disclaimer in fine print to back them up. However I feel they need to be more upfront about this aspect, in the way they represent this product.
If it would accomodate 5 users as I was led to believe I would have given it 5 stars.

We got Quickbooks Contractor because we wanted a one-stop accounting program. "It can do payroll, billing, tracking, blah blah blah blah". What they DON'T tell you is things such as "If you want to use the payroll function and it do all the taxes and math for you, then it will cost you an additional yearly subscription of $395..."!!!!!! Why the h*ll would this NOT be included in the program???????? If I want to do everything by hand, then why buy Quickbooks at all????? I didn't buy the program so that I could subscribe to half a dozen features that SHOULD be included in an "accounting" program!!!

From everything I have read and from what little experience I have had with Quickbooks thus far, Intuit seems like a company whose sole purpose is to see how much money they can milk the customer out of.

BEFORE YOU BUY, CALL AND MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A LOT OF EXTRAS THAT YOU NEED!!!! Whatever price you pay for it, it is almost guaranteed that the bleeding isn't going to stop there so get ready!

Your supposed to be able to construct an estimate, turn it into a bid and then into an invoice all in the click of a button, right? Wrong! It has an empty database! You have to create a list of every single job you might ever do and give each one a price! That's right! Plan on spending the next 2-3 years sitting at your computer entering thousands of job items.

Waste of money! Stay very far away! If you are needing accounting software, just buy the $99 downloadable Quickbooks Pro version and find your own estimating software--Clear Estimates, Cost Estimator, Xactimate, etc.

QuickBooks is a Trap!

I have been a quick books user since Y2K. I have used TurboTax every year to import my 1120S tax info from quick books and file my 1120S Tax return on March 15. My advice is find another software or just use a book keeper. Intuit is in it just for the we all are, but they do not play fair. Every 3rd year they sunset the edition you have just paid $300.00 for, and require you to purchase new Quick books software.

If you don't do payroll, or do not use TurboTax, you can avoid this forced upgrade, but If you need an accountant for taxes you may as well pay one for everything. I have used QuickBooks 2000, QuickBooks 2002, QuickBooks 2005 Premier, QuickBooks 2008 Premier, and QuickBooks 2011 Premier. I upgraded to the 2002 version because I wanted the new features, but every version since that time was an upgrade because I was caught in a trap.

Payroll services started at $100.00 for the tax table and you could just use it until it was outdated before purchasing another. Now it is $400.00 per year for a super small business, and when the year has closed it automatically deactivates. When it does you cannot even make the FICA and Medicare accounts calculate on their own, even though they don't change much. The SUTA and FUTA accounts also quit calculating, even though you enter your own rates for the SUTA tax. You will enter every bit of the tax data by hand.

They charge unreasonable amounts for the product upgrades that they force on you and then provide little to no support, unless of course you pay for it. I have been on the phone 5 times to TurboTax in the last 3 weeks trying to get my problem resolved, but to date I still cannot import my information from QuickBooks to TurboTax.

I bought this software for my plumbing business. I needed a program that would track inventory as well as perform other accounting functions. This program fills all my needs. Prior to this purchase I was using Quickbooks 2011 which does not have the capabilities of Quickbooks Premier Contractor 2012.
